Why the fuck does speed not mean speed?
I can easily outrun a speed ship with a handling ship. Not on curves: on flat, straight land. Handling = faster. All the time.

Well, it depends on the ships but speed does mean speed.
It's also possible that the easier AI settings let you outrun them.
I think ships also have some kind of hidden stats
