There is a reason why the only Turn-Based JRPGs that survived the mid 00s were those with the simpler systems. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, SMT and the like.
This shit that tries to be everything with utra gimmicks and long animations doesn't work at all after the initial 'whoa' effect it caused people over a decade ago.

Really not sure where you guys are getting your assessments from. Indiv cuts out a lot of fluff you still find in other games, and especially from VP.

Most Purify Weird Soul animations take longer to watch than OP's entire clip, and that's just a fraction of a typical player turn.

Not to mention the time you'll spend menu-ing in other games, which isn't even a factor here.

Not really, even vp2, which is slower that vp1, play faster than this.

If they wanted to had character reacting to different inputs, they could have just copied valkyrie profile 2 attack system and be done with it.

The main use of Purify Weird Soul/Crush weird soul was finishing battles the quickly as possible, even bosses could be killed in in one or two turns if you knew how to gear your group right, there is not much point taking out the combos and Purify weird soul if the battles are just going to take even longer to finish.

I feel like Baozhai is better now, honestly. A lot of the redesigns I feel are better or on the same level. Including Vasco, who was boring as fuck before and more of an overhaul than a redesign.

Gotta understand the original designs were done by guest artists and were more of concept art than finalized designs.
