Crash is a relic of the 90's, and visually came across as a generic bargain bin animal protagonist (similar to characters like Bubsy/Gex/etc., b-tier at best) even when the game was new. Updating it with HD graphics only accentuates and exacerbates this issue.

The gameplay was really the the series saving grace, as none of the actual characters were particularly interesting, likeable, or memorable.

Visually, a wacky animal character wearing pants is not very unique as far as 90's/Early 2000's video game protagonists go. Those were basically the "generic military FPS" games of their day in terms of saturation. Even at the the time of Crash's release they were cliche, and very few of the franchises to come out of that era have aged well without a massive visual overhaul.

Crash's aesthetic and characters don't look good when brought over mostly unchanged to a modern, HD game.

Rayman Origins/Legends is a good example of how to do it right.

Serious question, I might want to do it. It's clear prior video game knowledge and experience isn't a requirement, so what do they look for?
