The comfiest place for me was Booty bay, the music, the atmosphere and the looks were amazing.

I miss the pre-cata world so much. There were lots of comfy out of the way places that I would go and just enjoy the music/scenery, sometimes I'd take friends and we'd just goof around duelling or just sit around and chat about life or whatever else we were planning on doing in the game. I have so many good memories of this game because of the people I met and played with. Some of whom I've known for almost a decade now.

I disagree. Vashjir is probably my favorite leveling zone from Cataclysm. Exploring underwater areas was always pretty fucking fun to me (Abyssal Depths in particular was fenomenal). It's a big shame that they only managed to shove in dungeon in there. Would be pretty fun if we got a raid or something seeing that all Cata raids were a massive turn down

Started as shaman in vanilla, rerolled warrior almost immediately which I played until the end of TBC, then I switched to a DK, then almost immediately switched to a mage which I played until end of wotlk, quit playing, tried legion as mage and quit playing after a month.

I leveled as a tank/heal paladin in vanilla, holy shit I was clueless about mmos

Just play Legion you stupid faggots. If you're new to WoW it's the absolute best time there has ever been to actually get into WoW. All AP/AK grind is halted. Legendaries drop faster then you can reach the research for equipping a second one. Mythic+ is literally a better Diablo. The last 2 raids have been absolutely stellar, with all 3 real difficulties being well differentiated. Leveling is a down to about 40 hours for a first time player, which is most likely the lowest it's ever been, maybe outside of WoD faggotry. 7.3 is looking to be a monster patch with a ton of cool shit.

Blizz fucked up their shitty mechanics for the time being, all the dogshit of Legion is currently bypassable. Nighthold, even though it's last tier, still has a ton of good equipment, and a ton of new players have already joined in 7.2 due to the tweaked bullshit. If you played WoW before, or have been too scared to get into it, now is a phenomenal time.

This was the real shit here. This is what made wow so fucking great. The game itself was whatever, but it inspired a sense of adventure and progress never before seen. Seeing the same dudes, both friends and enemies, leveling along the way. Having actual investment in the dungeons since you had to gather your party from scratch - likely from buddies you've made along the way doing just that - and they were harder. You had to run or ride a slow ass mount everywhere (it felt really fast lel) or pay out your ass to ride a flight point. It all felt so big, foreboding and magical. LFR isn't really raiding. It's more like a guided tour.

Raiding is mechanically more interesting these days than it used to be, and at the proper difficulty is certainly much harder than old raids. The hard part about vanilla raiding was finding enough people that weren't completely braindead, which usually came down to finding out what was an acceptable amount of braindead retards to bring along.

Shadow Priest in both

Tiny me tried every class a little bit and nothing really gripped me and then I played priest. For some reason the combination of shielding self, casting a lot of spells and having more magical spells available to me then Christ really gripped me. Getting Shadowform was fucking great. I immediately went to PvP with it and fell in love. I remember begging people outside of Undercity for gold to buy a mount and some guy just traded me like the entire amount.

Continued playing that priest until Wotlk where I noticed signs of the whole game falling apart. Dungeon finder made me quit. I was the guy always sitting in Undercity for hours and making groups to every dungeon available and loved walking there and talking to the people I met. That's what made me love WoW. Dungeon finder destroyed that.

This, I remember reading an old PCGamer mag and they had a big 10 page feature on it, showed a bunch of stuff like orc raider and dwarf rifleman/mountaineer models, anx what in-game Orgrimmar would look like (particularly exciting considering I just beat the Rexxar campaign having finally gotten internet at the time)

Tonight anon in think you helped me realize what really ducked me into that game as a young adult. I had spent my childhood growing up playing warcraft and it's sequels. After so many years I get to continue that story and experience first hand. I got to go beyond the dark portal and see the mushroom trees and all that good stuff.

I truly hope I get to experience something like that again.... fuck.

The problem with FFXIV IS STILL A WOW CLONE.

It's got all of old WoW's flaws PLUS the tedious grinding and stupid fetch quests.
You don't even leave town in the first hours of the game. And when you finally do, it's to kill literal rats standing still outside the city for their tails and then you run right back inside for more stupid fuckin fetch quests.

Sure, you get past that at some point. But when you do you only find yourself in WoW gameplay from 10 years ago anyhow. Maybe with some GW2 sprinkled in and a Final Fantasy coat of polish rubbed in.

FFXIV was outdated garbage when it came out.

I tried every class to play on Alliance when Vanilla was here, but nothing clicked with me until I've read what they could do on the official website. I wanted something that allowed me to dish out damage up close, but also had abilities to heal and tank if shit went wrong. Paladin were almost there, but were way too slow. After reading what classes do on the official website, I've been looking at the wrong faction the entire time

Shaman had everything i wanted, plus it was perfect for exploration thanks to getting wolf form at level 20, you get 20 levels of walking at 40% speed compared to the rest. War stomp also saved my ass numerous time.

I miss using my totems in raids, i miss how fluent the class felt back then, i miss doing pvp as one. Every time i get back on wow, i see my old husk of a shaman losing more and more abilities and totems and i fucking hate it. Last time my hard earned totems weren't even in my bags anymore.

Dunno, man. To me it's probably because I've played the previous Warcraft games, and since it had a solid foundation to build on, it seems richer than other MMOs. Even newcomers to Warcraft came to really admire the world and its lore.
