The day my dad was arrested for molesting my sister and I went to live with my uncle was the day I played a video game for the first time. There was an arcade about two blocks away from his apartment that he brought me to in an attempt to distract me from losing my dad. He gave me three dollars in quarters and helped me pick out a game. I chose a game featuring a kangaroo (I believe it was actually called Kangaroo) because kangaroos were my favorite animal. Before my mom died she used to play a game with me where she'd pick me up and zip me up in her jacket and called me her little joey since it looked vaguely like a mother kangaroo with its young in its pouch. So I was pretty terrible at this game, and every one I tried, but the next day my uncle took me to the toy store and told me I could get whatever I wanted. I saw a banner for Super Nintendo in the store and told him I wanted that. He told me it was expensive but he'd get it for me if I helped him out around the house. I agreed and cried tears of joy as we went through the checkout line. I had never received a gift like this before. We went home and played Super Mario World and it was like I forgot the events of the previous day. Eventually I found out that by help out around the house, my uncle meant he wanted me to play with his ass. I lived with him for four years before I was moved into a foster home. I wasn't able to take the Super Nintendo with me.

My first console was the odyssey 2 my second was the NES, my third was the Genesis.

we had an nes and really crappy comp, but it had flight sim, star trek 25th, loom. had pretty much every major console up until the 360/ps3 gen, then i just stopped with consoles and stayed with pc.

1991 here. My first console was my parents' NES but because we were out in the sticks and didn't get internet for a long time I didn't even learn there was SNES till the PS1/N64 era.

How did the NES mini sell so well?

Do people really think that you can only play old school games through Virtual Console or by having the original system? So they waited for something like this?

I'm still a little impressed that Nintendo took a hold of their older (former) target audience, ignoring the mass buyers/resellers.

1. Buying NES mini at the time before the scalpers got it was a decent way to get all these games by a legal means without having to spend tons of time and money getting the cartridges

2. It was a neat little piece of novelty merchandise that looks good on dressers and coffee tables that would be a fun way to relive old memories of the NES days with friends and family. Consumers eat these things up
