Lords Of Thunder on the Turbografx CD and Sega CD.
Deep Purple are just like Led Zeppelin and all those other dadrock bands in that they were only good for influencing other much better bands in the future than being a good band themselves. To their credit, outside of the Smoke of the Water shit they aren't as overrated as Zeppelin are.
>>382191004
None of the shit Purple/Rainbow heavily influenced like Malmsteen and the entirety of Shrapnel Records ever really had the songwriting chops that Blackmore and Lord/Glover had.
Plus the singers those bands had were pretty much the top as far as hard rock goes; Gillan, Coverdale, Hughes, Dio, Bonnet, JLT etc. etc.

Why do so many people dismiss pre-1990 rock music as "dad rock?" Today's popular music is crappy pop and rap/hiphop. The rest is edgy metal and memey electronic music. What is some actually good rock music around today? It seems like rock and most other "old" genres are either dead or virtually nothing like how they were in the 60's-80's or even the 90's.

It's only /mu/ doing it. Classic rocks remind them of masculinity and they need a scapegoat to feel insecure and judgemental about, so they made this dumb dadrock meme.

>Why do so many people dismiss pre-1990 rock music as "dad rock?"
It's more of a counter movement to all those Youtube comments in the 2000's saying stuff like "i was born in the wrong generation" on the music videos. Internet contrarian force developed an aversion to the most popular rock from before the 2000's. Of course, the popularity of the bands also plays as a factor. It's seen as entry level music or music for older people who never got with the times.

There are a lot of fantastic rock bands around today, but you have to dig deeper than the surface because rock/metal isn't the dominant genre it used to be up until the 90s. If you like Sabbath give Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats a listen.
