Excellent overall but both are mostly unfinished and sloppy. 1 is the tighter experience, 2 is too bloated and doesn't take itself seriously enough. both games are also very unbalanced which forces you to pretend optimal builds don't exist in order for real role playing.

I played fallout 2 in early 2000, then F1, then F2, F1, F2 and so on for years.
Then they announced Fallout 3, a post apocalyptic first person shooter and I was extatic! Then it was released.

Yep. It did brilliantly. Into the century of watered down, easy to chew, easy to sell content for people who run around like a headless chickens and are too busy and too distracted by all the glimmering nonsense to commit their attention to a product for longer than 5 minutes.
And Fallout 3 bringing the franchise into 21st century is exactly the reason why it suck so hard
