Just finished this for the first time and it's one of the best games I've played, what does /v/ think of it?Best level: The Mage TowersWorst level: Escape!
>>382177741
Thief Gold is my absolute favorite game I fucking adore it
Best Mission: Song of the Caverns
Worst: I honestly cant decide, I enjoy all of them
Check out some Fan Missions as well, if you're interested. There's some really stellar ones out there
>Best level: The Mage Towers
This is some shit taste
>>382178535
Its a fine mission, although I wouldn't ever say its my favorite personally
>>382177741
>/v/ think of it?
it's brilliant.
I'll post a smaller fan mission list since anon beat to the big one.
>>382177741
>TFW /v/ tricked me into playing this
its not fun by any means. I love stealth games (mgs) but this is too silly. The guards can't even see me even though I'm right in their face just because its a little dark? the story may as well not even exist, because there isn't one. The levels are too long because you have to wait to do anything.
I quit 4 levels in, gave my best shot.
Pic related, a better stealth game.
>>382180047
>purposefully ignored the sound mechanics and went straight to sight in the dark
ok
>>382180047
Im figuring this is bait but I'll bite
>The guards can't even see me even though I'm right in their face
You obviously didn't pay attention to the story and how Garrett came to be a master thief
>the story may as well not even exist, because there isn't one
Fix the fucking movies from playing before and after missions retard
>The levels are too long because you have to wait to do anything
Stop being a pussy
>Pic related, a better stealth game.
I love MGS too but Thief is such a better and more in depth stealth game
I'm going to the bear pits tomorrow, y'wanna come with?
>>382181494
Tuh, couldn't pay me enough!
>>382177741
will you be playing through the entire series?

>Best level: The Mage Towers
That shit made me drop the game for a fucking month, fuck that level
REAL best level is the Lost City
>>382180047
So this is the new bait standard we have?
>>382183710
The Haunted Cathedral is the best, and also the best survival horror level in any game ever
>>382184052
>angry Hammerite noises
Thief made me nearly crap my pants half a dozen times over the course of the game, shit's spooky, man.
>>382183710
You couldn't figure out the the simplest level in Thief?
Soulforge>Into the Maw
>>382177741
A great game with an excellent backstory that could make for some great spinoffs. Hammerite-centered game anyone?
>nd The Builder said, 'If the foundation is weak, do you wail and gnash your teeth? Do you ask it to repour itself? Nay, you tear it down and begin anew. So shall it be with all My Children, whether they be Stone or Flesh.'
best: song of the caverns
worst: thieves' guild
ftfy OP
>>382184373
Not same guy. But I also did not like mages tower, besides escape most likely weakest level. Although it does have neat rooms. My favs from gold are caverns, return to haunted cathedral, bonehoard, constatine mansion, assassins, the level where you disguise as a hammeritte. All the levels are pretty great though with exception.of ESCAPE!
>>382185656
Neither one can be the weakest level when Thieves Guild exists.
>mfw I realize there will never ever be another Looking Glass-tier gave development company
DID YOU THINK THOSE ANCIENT PHRASES WERE MERE WORDS, MANFOOL?

>The stone cannot know why the chisel cleaves it; the iron cannot know why the fire scorches it. When thy life is cleft and scorched, when death and despair leap at thee, beat not thy breast and curse thy evil fate, but thank the Builder for the trials that shape thee.
Best level is the one in Constantine's mansion. Is there really any question? Worst is Escape, by far. What were they thinking?
Have you praisee the Builder today Brothers?
>>382186995

>>382186951
Pretty good question actually.

Best:Shalebridge Cradle
>>382186951
But Escape is just Sword in reverse? Why are people so upset with it?
Can anyone attest to how well it runs under WINE on Linux? Just curious.
Actually on that topic, I could have sworn I hear something about source code being leaked for an unreleased dreamcast version of the dark engine. That would be cool.
>>382187528
>No guards
>Short as hell
>Die in one hit
>Stripped of all your equipment
It's also not The Sword in reverse in the slightest, the only thing they have in common is the first floor of the mansion.
>>382187476
Reminder to the thread that Deadly Shadows is great with the Thief 3 Gold mod (combines all the small level sections into 1 big level to remove loading screens and add more passages)
>>382187784
>apemen aren't guards
shut your mouth taffer
also you have a little thing called STEALTH that lets you not get hit

manfools, will they ever learn?
>>382193348
Do you think Garrett was torn up about what went down at Soulforge?
>>382193998
Why did Garrett care about the bitch that gouged out his eye getting killed?
>>382194498
He wanted the tree pussy
>>382193998
I never got the impression that he had eyes for her
>>382194498
Maybe he just likes women who are near his power level.
>>382194730
Viktoria's power level is much higher than Garrett's
>>382194987
Do you have a single fact to back that up with?
>>382194987
Psssh...
*disappears into the shadows*
I don't think so.
*solos Soulforge*
*kills the Trickster*
>>382195046
she's a tree monster that wields magic
Garrett is a normal human with some stealth related magicks and a arsenal of tools
>>382195179
Then didn't Constantine just have her retrieve the Eye, why go through all the trouble of setting up the sword mission and all the ensuing missions when Garrett could've failed?
>>382193998
It was pretty obvious, I think garret was harboring a lot of shit. He was so cynical and snarky I think it shocked the shit out of him to see some one follow a concept of " honor" and then actually stick to it.
>>382195339
Because then there wouldn't be a plot
And I think there was implications that stealth was necessary, so they couldn't brute force the areas that held the runes/hammer temple
>>382195339
Magical protection and the places were literal death traps.
>tfw two dumb for thief
I've beaten several levels, but sometimes I just get completely stuck. I'm surprised you guys like Constantine's sword so much, that's one I don't have any trouble with.
>>382194718
>>382183542
Never gets old.
I love how in both games you indirectly kill the villains and they both don't even realize it until its too late.
I have been stuck on Casing the Joint in T2 for ages. Can't figure out what to do in the spoopy ghost library.
>>382198520
look for books and shit scatter around
the kinds you can read
>>382198609
Thanks mate. I can't wait to finish T2 so I can get into all these fan missions.
drawing something as an excuse to keep the thread bumped
gonna add karras
>>382199369
I'd like to see a drawing of Karras with his weird boy robot
This thing is pretty cheap on steam
Do the original developers get some money if i buy this?
>>382177741
honestly, I just want 1 and 2 to get remakes. no shennanigans, just better physics/controls/AI/shadows and keep everything else intact.
>>382199738
no they're fucking dead, squeenix will inherit your dollars
>>382199738
LGS is long dead friendo. I think Square Enix would get the money now
>>382199738
looking glass and ion storm are both long gone, which means your money would end up going to square enix, which is bad
>>382199835
>>382199873
>>382199893

neat, saved. constantine got them lips tho.
>>382200995
Strange how Garrett seems to just stand there like he's just curious how this one's going to end. The fear only seems to hit him just as Viktoria gives him a lovely big tangled hug.
>>382202176
fixed up some things
Bane?
>>382202756
he's a big ghost
>>382177741
I wasn't thrilled with it at first because it had more spooky levels and undead than I was expecting. I like these things, but I pictures myself stealing from nobles the whole game. It's grown on me a lot though, and I like it very much now, even more than Thief II (which is also a very good game). Too bad none of my friends like stealth games or are afraid of getting lost. The only person I've managed to get into Thief is my grandma, and now she's played all the games (except for the newer one) more than I have.
>>382186498
When LGS died in 2000 western game design died with them.
the way Mosley killed the sheriff wasTrue Art
Will there ever be a Thief 4? They should use dishonored as a spiritual successor. Instead of literally rehashing the first game's plot the sequel could've been about some thief that got the Outsider's attention and uses his new dark magic to steal so he can keep paying the rent to live in the nice area of town.
>>382183710
in 2 it's good. in 1 it's a huge chore. fuck those derrick things.
>>382199781
is there any remake that does this?
>>382204083
REmake
Is it weird that I get aroused every time I hear Garrett's voice?
>>382178456
>Seven Shades of Mercury
fuck, that one was seriously great. good story that was really ambitious, it was gonna be a whole campaign but they cancelled it/reduced it to one mission
I had to give up the silver fire poker in Assassins and use google after searching the entire place 5 times over and coming up with nothing.Having the poker be stashed in a secret passage BEHIND a secret door in the fireplace was pretty stupid. You could kind of make out the door in the wall when you look at it but I chalked it up to textures fucking up.
That seems like the kind of thing they should've hinted at somewhere, unless they did and I just missed it.
>>382204823
prime example of a great remake, but it really doesn't keep things intact
>>382186210
I just recently cleared this one and I find it hard to imagine you can get anything done without knocking out half the population of the level. All the doors and chests in it take forever to pick open and are placed in well lit rooms with quick patrols.
>>382206294
>fire poker
>behind fire place
Makes sense
Is it true that Garrett wears tap shoes or are his footsteps just loud for gameplay reasons?
Why would an item used to tend fires be stored behind an active fireplace?
>>382207682
Why are there zombies? Why are there magic?
Videogame logic!
>>382177741
I like 2 better but it is a really close call. There are no further games in the series, it stops at 2.
>>382189285
>3
There are only 2 Thief games. They made these other games called Thi3f and Thiaf but the names of the game and characters are just very similar.3 was always shit. Just because 4 was worse doesn't make 3 any less shit
Trickster did nothing wrong and was in the right, all of nature was nearly wiped out by Karras after he was killed.
Explain to Karras why trees and flowers aren't vile and blasphemous abominations that should be destroyed.
Go on, he's waiting.
>>382177741
Where does one get the original Thief?Without paying because I have literally no money.
>>382210128
I got it off The Pirate's Bay just a few weeks back, GOG version that came with HD patch
thief isn't good
>>382210046
Trees and flowers help create oxygen, you are literally killing all life by destroying every tree and plant you see.
>>382210046
Because them plants don't have no lisp.
>Father "Setting Fire to Gaia" Karras
>Father "Greenhouse Slaughterhouse" Karras
>Father "If it rusts, it fills me with lust" Karras
>Father "If it breathes, it needs to leave" Karras
>Father "if it makes a breath, greet it with death" Karras
>Father "If it has life, give it the knife" Karras
>Father "If it's green, make it a machine" Karras
>Father "If it's got petals, replace it with metal" Karras
>Father "If I see a Pagan, I'm a ragin'" Karras
>>382177741
Not joking, it's way too scary for me.
I've played the first level twice, but I can't go further when I get to the prison level. I wish I could, I love the game, but there's something about the ambient sounds, lighting, low quality models and textures and how vulnerable you are that I can never get over. The supernatural elements are the icing on the cake, though.
