So is it fun to play or naw? I'm looking for a multiplayer game to sink my time into.

Well, combat moves a bit faster since it usually takes three or so hits to down an enemy your level with appropriate gear.

Thing is, it's kind of been dumbed down and half of a fight is spamming an AoE you basically start your character with.

I'm still early in, but I'm leaning towards "hasn't changed much"

There was nothing wrong with the amount of skills, many were redundant yeah but that's a given with so many weapon combinations.

Mostly gives you different mission debriefings, different introductions, and different in-between-zone missions. also some advancement missions. I think in Tokyo it becomes a bit of a bigger deal but I haven't gotten even close to tokyo.

You always could play with friends regardless of factions. It's brought up numerous times by NPCs that 'now is the time for the people actually in the field to work together and not be morons'.

Story is kind of linear, spoilery example I'll try to keep vague is that at some point you get helped by a 'mysterious spy' chick who makes so many cringy spy-movie reference remarks and behaves suspiciously, any sensible person could tell she's a fucking shitty liar and going to backstab you. Guess what obvious trap you HAVE to walk right into?

I found out by looking at the dress up option in the character menu.

I noticed there were several costumes unlocked by making a deck, and several were not from my faction's deck. Still figuring out the skill combos you're supposed to go with.

But I tried the previews and, there it was, a goon outfit done in Dragon Green. It was kind of surreal.

shit, bad news. I just checked it out and it seems they changed the Warrior Deck thing to no longer show the thong.

I'm not sure if this was a result of early SJWs since there was a bit of a controversy awhile back about one costume that was unrecognizeable between genders. (later, the devs made fun of it by releasing a 'swimsuit' outfit that was a wet suit for women and a bikini for men)

Or if it's just to hide seams because deck outfits and many other costumes have been changed to be wearable along side other clothing articles.

The combat changes took it from meh to stuff I just didn't want to do. I can handle active combat and I can handle tab-targetted MMO shit. A halfass mix of them just makes me want to play something else.

Also, the keys shit is ass. I've got a few hundred hours on TSW and loved the setting, characters, and lore more than the gameplay. The dream sequence in the opening week sucks you right out of the atmosphere that the original intro had but I don't know if that was added just for Legends. Jumping off at the finale with Lilith and John atop Orochi tower worked for me and I don't want to come back for this.

Played 2000 hours of that shit, got every single episode, and this disgusting abortion of a new version is nothing compared to what was the legit game.
Casualized, removed features, stupid over-simplified mechanics and most of the old features badly reworked or removed completely.
Also the game now is slightly p2w thanks to golden bars and all of that shit.
It's a literal shitfest.
And worse of all, you can't even copy your character, save for your lolclothing.
This was their desperate attempt to revive a game that died because of their greed, only to make it even worse.

I've played through Legends to Blue Mountain after putting around 90 hours in the regular version. The video is pretty accurate, the combat is slightly better, though the game on the whole seems much easier, but all the f2p shit is awful and they want to nickle and dime the shit out of you.

A lot of the story content is (still) great but it went from being hampered by being an mmo to being hamstrung by being a money-grubbing shitfest.

And Jesus' brother telling you about being immortal now that you were immortal was a nice touch. There was nothing wrong with the setting or the premise. It was just the part of the game where you could really feel the weakness of the game's combat as well as the weakest setting in terms of interesting things to look at (till you get really into it.) The combat kind of sucks no matter what way you slice it. I think only Skyrim is worse, and just barely.

But, yeah, it probably should have been a single player game from the get-go.

What's infuriating on top of it all is that the skill wheel is the closest thing we've ever had to a potential Guild Wars in build variety. I have no idea how MMO combat feels so bad in TSW given its, well, MMO combat. The depth is there for unique shit (until you hit difficult content that forces strict builds) but man, it was just lacking in oomph.

I tried a bit of legends and I wasn't too much of a fan of TSW but I do like the improvements with how every weapon isn't just Build Resource > Spend Resource > Repeat alongside the new overarching passives.

Is this worth playing over the original incarnation though? I own the original (minus all the DLC fuckery) but I only ever finished 2/3 of the island zones you start out on (with the terror-from-the-deep filth + zombies or whatever it was). I've reinstalled TSW and downloaded the new Legends version but I don't have much time to play MMOs anymore so I don't want to waste time on an inferior version, whichever one that is.

And if you do recommend the new version, what classes are fun? I played a blood mage/sword hybrid in the original.

Dungeons, do them once for the story, then ignore them. Do all of the quests that you can find, the characters that you meet up with are great.

How was combat changed?

Every weapon now has a lame minigame associated with it that sucks up hotkeys: Elementalism has to balance between heat and cold, pistols have spinning barrels, ARs have grenades that sometimes blow up in your face literally doing damage to you. These require at least two hotkeys per weapon to manage, so you wasted half your deck already.

There's also only six hotkeys now, and two are mapped to the mouse buttons.

Leveling was introduced but it doesn't matter.
