Just look at the front suspension on this pic and compare it to the OP.
One is capable of huge wheel travel and seems plausible for a future space military to be using.
What the nu-male developers changed it to was a "modern" (by our standards) IFS suspension system meant for on-road use. There was no reason for the change.
