I'm interested in this as well, because I get ranked games so fast, I can't even start one grand prix match before I get dragged away.
Last game I played I just picked Springman vs. Ribbon Girl, and I immediately felt there was something bullshit about it because they seemed to move way too fast, effectively impossible to hit. Didn't help it was Ramen Bowl stage so you can't really aim.

I just get the feeling Splatoon will be a lot more balanced and fun because you can find your niche and play as a team. In Arms I can't even play Helix because I'm neglecting motion for traditional controls, but you can't charge your arms AND attack both left and right without grabbing or switching to the other means of charging (extend and right, or crouch and left, not vice versa because of button arrangement)

Everything revolves around rush. You pick a mobile character like Ribbon Girl or Kid Cobra and select arms that charge rush super fast, like 2 Buffs/Bubbs for example. Then you spam as many punches as possible to charge your rush. Since you are a mobile character, the enemy will have a harder time punishing anything and you might even deal some damage with your punches. As soon as you have your rush charged get close to the enemy. Very important. Now you spam throws. 2 Things will happen: You will either grab the enemy and throw him or the enemy will try to dodge/punch your throw. Activate your rush if this happens and you will always hit them unless something seriously went wrong, like lag fucking you over. Now try to charge your rush as quickly as possible again and try to not get hit by the enemy rush somehow. The person who somehow misses his rush or does not connect with enough damage has pretty much lost the round unless the other guy completely chokes.

That's pretty much rank 13+ matches summed up.

Yeah, the awkwardness of blocking, dodge delay, and curved punch specialised arms making you super vulnerable and rooted would promote that since they give rushes the ability to deflect punches.
Literally all they had to do was make it so you need an opening to rush, like stun (that you're doing anyway) or as soon as they're launched (requiring timing to continue into juggle). Instead even using it against AI is pretty janky, it just doesn't seem very polished.

Rush still respects arms weight classes. You can just heavy punch through a light punch rush for example.

I really enjoyed the game for about a week, but I have to agree with those now who say it is lacking in depth. It just doesn't have enough pull in the long term.

I think the biggest issue was lack of content, but even if Ninty included something like a campaign to flesh out the world, the mechanics themselves still leave a lot to be desired once you're no longer a shitter. I hope Arms evolves over time to be something great though. Just could have probably used another year or two in the oven.

If they air dash, they don't move as much horizontally and drop, and while you can't aim horizontally or vertically well, Rush makes your arms huge so you only really need to consider horizontal. Not being able to block and needing to land to dash again makes them vulnerable.
Land dashing means they can't block and if they're not nimble they won't be fast enough to evade the rush, so most of the time it would hit unless they're also meta. But you're better blocking/rushing yourself.

Dodging has no i-frames and since you are close to the enemy when using it you can hit them while they are still in the dodge animation and before they can block. They can technically dodge your rush but that would imply that you were using weapons with a slow start to their rush, which no one is doing. If you are really scared of the enemy dodging (because they are Kid Cobra for example and have perfect dodging reflexes) just wait longer before you activate your rush and keep spamming throws or punches while being close to the enemy. The other guy will eventually have no choice but to create an opening that you can use.

This is technically already possible. A Megaton can punch through a Popper rush for example. But pulling it of outside of party mode or lower rank is almost impossible, mostly because everyone is too close and mobile. What will almost always happen instead is either: 1. The newly activated rush cancels your already active arms and you get hit. 2. The enemy arms move faster than your heavy arm and curved around it and you get hit. 3. The enemy was in the air and had a hydra which means one of the 3 missles is still getting through because it flew above your punch.

What you can do however if the enemy has lighter arms than you is baiting the enemy into using his rush first, so that you can activate your own rush to cancel out his version. Sadly, someone with a heavy arm will almost always be slower when it comes to charging rush than someone with 2 fast medium arms.
