Viconia == Jaheria > Aerie

Aerie gets more shit than she deserves, her whining is meant to be off putting, it's the first time in practically her whole life she's had someone to listen to her complaints, so she goes overboard with it. She recognizes that, apologises and improves herself. Plus, what happened to her truly was fucking terrible, it'd be like having to watch your arm get diseased and die until it was hacked off with a dull blade while you were fully conscious. But, despite everything, she's 100% compassionate, she has no interest in vengeance or payback and even deeply mourns the lives lost in the circus; that's pretty admirable to me.

The real issue is how short it is after that, it's pretty much just a few more conversations and then you popping her cherry (or not).

Viconia and Jaheria just have far more that their relationship actually goes though and that they can develop than she does. Which you prefer pretty much just comes down to your own tastes, Viconia is fiery but frustrating, Jaheria is earnest but slow, they're both top tier though.

stratagems probably, Tactics is harder (some shit is totally broken) and is like the tactics FFT mod in that it adds stupid difficulty to some parts. Ascension is comparable to tactics in some areas and just different in others but also very hard (the Melissan fight in Ascension is comparable to the final Irenicus fight in SoA with tactics for example).

If it's your first playthrough just use core rules. Second playthrough start with mods and see which you like. Most are pretty well documented in what they change for the difficulty mods.
