I actually thought that it wasnt that different from previous games in terms of dialogue.
Because due to the voice acting you now only have cues, whereas before you had the text obviously written out. But the "text" was still there, it was just spoken now. Even sarcastic replies were a thing before.

But then I installed the dialogue mod so the cues would be gone and I could see the text, and it was just uninteresting and boring shit 90% of the time.
And that really shows where it went wrong. Not the cues are the problem, but that the voice acting demanded a certain drive or "character" to be prevalent since role playing is obviously out of the question.
And thats what completely annihilated FO4s dialogue system.
