The last good mainline final fantasy game

X-2 was fun with the costumes/job class shit too although the story was dumber than most FFgames.

It's pretty good. The dialogue is laughable and weak in quite a few places, but the characters don't feel 1-dimensional at least. The combat is turn based, and the leveling system isn't the traditional "grind to get exp and level up" sorta thing. They use a sphere grid, which has various stat boosting nodes, spells & such that you work towards. So you could turn your traditional tank into a battlemage and shit.

Battles work on a turn based system where the actions taken have an effect on turn order, and there's ways to manipulate it like using attacks that push back enemy turns. It's cool.
