I'm gonna be perfectly honest and say I much prefer Sonic games over Mario games. I never liked the samesy feel Mario games had aside from the 3D titles. The formula got old quick and the levels weren't all that creative.

And I never really was a fan of Mario music. The soundtracks are great but there aren't really songs I can say are genuinely memorable to me. Honestly. Sonic soundtrack on the other hand is something I can get behind.

And the bosses are memorable strictly because they are used over so many times and a lot of the times they are just copy pastes or reskins. I don't like copy pastes or reskins.

But to each their own. Sonic games are just more entertaining, especially the bad ones. Mario games just aren't my cup of tea.

Sonic 2 is brutally overrated. Owned 2 as a kid, played both of them fully a few months back and 3&K was a much more enjoyable game. Every stage in S3&K is arguably good (marble garden is a pain as Sonic, outside of that everything is fine though) while the first two zones of Sonic 2 are dull. Both the opening stages in 3 and knuckles are fairly open and fun to run through, while Emerald Hill zone only has like two paths that are right next to each other. Chemical plant zone is also the definition of "the game playing itself" and probably were that meme comes from (those dumb pipe segments mixed with half the stage consisting of boosts to push you through paths is dumb). Metropolis zone is also fairly slow and sticks around too long, and the final zone mixed with the final two bosses is mediocre and way too easy.

S3&K also has two awesome final bosses that are much more fun than 2s, elemental shields, and stages that are just better made with much more paths and secrets through them.

Metal Sonic is just straight up memorization, and the giant eggman robot is easier. You just dash from one side of the arena to the other and wait for him to throw his arms so you can hit him.

They're just dull as fuck once you have them slightly figured out.
