honestly I gave up at level 62. I was promised Japan and Samurais, but I was doing fetch quests in a desert-type area for people I do not give a fuck about. a quest actually is "hey can you go kill some pests for me?" and it's on the opposite side of the map, so you go there and kill ONE enemy that dies in 2 hit and then you go back.

I couldnt do it anymore. for me the game doesnt feel like final fantasy anymore

To be fair, everything after Gaius was threats that already existed. At least now Eorzea is at an unprecedented level of peacetime. Ul'Dah, Gridania, Limsa, Ishgard and Ala Mhigo are all not only at peace, but have banded together to form a great alliance. The XIXth has been defeated, the Dragonsong war ended, and the Garlean occupation of Ala Mhigo is over. The Primal threat is at its lowest, the Empire is on its back foot, most of the Allagan bullshit has been discovered and tamed (aside from Omega.) Eorzea now only has the Ascians to worry about. It even brokered a treaty with Othard after helping them achieve peace.

It's actually pretty amazing how much we've accomplished in an MMO of all things. I imagine by the end of 5.0 we'll have claimed Garlemald and by 6.0 we'll have ended the Ascian threat too.

I'd rather the developers not force the main story on people and instead give the players options that matter in the game by aggregating all the choices the playerbase makes and then make writing decisions based on the total choices they made.

The latter isn't as important, I'm just really bothered by being forced to go through snowflake storyline in order to access a new region, I love games where I'm not anybody necessarily important but make my own importance felt by making friends in-game and being at the core of a team of players with their own specific goal in this virtual world in mind.

I don't think being treated as special is all that bad either, it's just a matter of you being the main character of the story instead of some nobody who is just there to witness events. From the perspective of the story, all other players besides you are just basic adventurers while you are the protag. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it means you can feel more involved in the story and the world, and the events don't feel as impersonal, you can actually feel sad from seeing characters you liked dying because they had been a bro to you or whatever. You were the one that journeyed with them and helped them out and vice versa.

Just hit 70 on RDM today, went on the bro quest with X'rhun to save Arya and then jumped into a Castrum Arbania run.

Holy fuck me 70 RDM is insane. No hit less than 7k, 1.90 second cast times, then instant hit of a second spell, plus one of the two OGCDs, then the melee combo.

Unfortunately this game asks you to complete roughly 450 quests if your friends are at Stormblood. SE couldn't afford to continue losing that market just so they could push an awful story.

FFXIV is not like other MMOs, you are REQUIRED to do the story and for the loads of people that are coming back to check out the tantalizing new jobs they couldn't get beforehand because they fell the fuck to sleep during one the "go talk to this guy on the other side of the world and then come back to me" quests, it's too much to ask them to dredge through that shit.

They lost too many potential shekels with Heavensward because they locked the three jobs behind the initial 300+ quest storyline and they weren't willing to lose anymore.

MT/OT roles against bosses feel fine aside from potential enmity issues, but dungeoning has gotten worse. Until you start getting Blood Gauge from your two buffs, DRK feels a lot shittier than it was

Here are some friendly tips from a season veteran

- Start out with a Tank or Healer class, we always need more of those and you'll probably like them. Tanks: Marauder and Gladiator Healers: Conjurer and Arcanist (Get to 30) Scholar

- Save all of your gil because you might need it later on. You should only spend gil on repairs and travelling fees

- Combat with most classes sucks shit until you hit Level 50 as you dont have your entire rotation or core set of skills until then. Once 50, content becomes alot more enjoyable due to the variety of skills and cooldowns you'll have access to

- You can totally go down the rabbit hole of being a full time crafter/gatherer if you really want to but I'd advise getting to 50 on a combat class first.

- This last one is pretty important, be social when playing this game. If you dont have any irl friends to play with, why not make some online? Even just having a light chat with some people in one of the main towns can lead to a great relationship down the road. Myste is another aspect of your Darkside, one that feels remorse for the endless killing and realizes in your subconscious that all these "bad" people who died at your hands had their stories ended right then and there. You got to see the background issues of people you helped / fucked over and Myste sought some form of forgiveness for the nature of your job.

WoL makes a lot of broken homes and widows. All the bitches we killed had lives, reasons, and relationships. Quest implies that you understand it's your burden to bear and you shouldn't seek forgiveness. The Fray aspect of your Darkside doesn't give two tucks about doing what needs to be done.

Just like "Fray" was a manifestation of the WoL's dark side, Myste - who looks like an amalgam of Haurchefaunt and Ysaile - is a manifestation of the WoL's guilt for all the people the WoL killed or failed to save. He tries to force you to succumb to that guilt and try to escape to a fantasy where everything turned out alright for everyone, just like in the 30-50 story your dark side tried to force you to stop caring at all. It sort of resembles the classical division of the psyche in id, superego and ego.
It also ties together nicely with the WoL's interactions with Zenos, who calls attention on the WoL.

Why not use Party Finder? Yes it's loaded with DPS but cross world shortens an hour to less than 15 minutes, which will actually blow right past if you do something productive.

he was never going to die in the first place. It goes against the narrative.
Haurchefant's death was tragedy. He had to die for his character to rise above. He was a jobber in one of the greatest families of Ishgard who wasn't even allowed to live in the city. Just blocking the hit wouldn't have made him any different than any of the other characters that the WoL has faced.
Gosetsu's "death" was noble. He didn't have to die for his character to be redeemed. All he had to do prove that he was a true samurai through and through as he constantly lamented about doing throughout the MSQ. He did that. There was no reason for him to die afterwards.

Job quests are usually pretty dull overall, but DRK's was god tier because of how it ties in to the character being the WoL.
