>buying single player games

You realize this is just charity right? You don't have to buy any of this shit.
>>
>>382090271
It's more convenient to buy than pay at this point. Also I'm an adult with a source of income now.
Not supporting developers in "MY" situation(cheap faggots, don't get triggered) would be pretty fucked up.

someone (valve) finally made a system that is even more convenient than pirating a game. don't even need daemon tools + mounting disks endlessly. don't have to quickly look up a cd-key, and the games are usually cheap enough.

Cool trick that only I know apparently
1. Buy a single-player game on Steam
2. Go to offline mode
3. Play the game as long as you want
4. Go back to online mode
5. Request a refund

Gameplay hours aren't recorded in offline mode, it'll go back to zero once you go online. You'll have less than 2 hours in the game so you get a refund.

Have fun.
>>

Why the fuck haven't I thought of this?
>>
>>382090872
I actually didn't think of that
You can't do it too often though, otherwise they'll start refusing your refunds.

Can't trust your trackers of choice to stay up these days, even if they do there's no guarantee you'll find a seeded torrent for the lesser known vidya when you actually want to download them. The convenience of having stable access to games can be worth paying for

ya i agree that it's a charity OP. However, if i like a game i make sure to buy the game multiple times and get the physical edition etc to support the development house. however, given industry best practice, i'm not dropping 20 dollars on an indie that i have no idea how good it is or controls.. if the game is worth the money, i'll support the dev.. otherwise they wont fucking con a dime out of me

I'd buy more games if they had a drm free physical copy available. I'll stick to pirating games for a working archive of games in the future.

Pretty much the case, why bother with shady pirate shit and sites, cracking games and unstable speeds when you can just hit the buy button, download and start playing right away? One would think everyone would naturally grow up from being a leech who relies on charity and doesn't contribute in any way to it's hobby, but i guess some people never changes.
>>
>>382090872

That's not how Steam works, it's the same as when Steam goes down whilst you are playing yet it gives the correct played time once Steam comes back up.

Steam logs it somewhere.
>>
>>382093292
I beat Dishonored on offline mode with 4 hours in the game according to steam

>>
>>382090459
>>382090627
these two
when i tried pirating rfactor, i went through so much shit mounting disks and torrenting different cracks and it never worked out in the end so i sucked it up and paid the $8 or whatever it was
usually now i just buy the singleplayer game if the game is giving me a hard time, crack that, and refund it.
>>
>playing single player games

how do you not get bored out of your mind?
>>
I earn enough these days that the cost of owning games and having everything updated automatically via Steam is worth it relative to time spent pirating patches. I value my time more than my money.

>so i can waste a lot of money!!!
wonderful mindset... how doesn't the idea of opportunity cost eat you alive? like if you saved your money on gaming or wasteful spending you could afford a nicer apartment, or have more money in savings, or travel more.. what's the point of throwing money away??? you could buy a gf like pic related
>>
>>382094473
You're clearly the one who doesn't understand opportunity cost if you think time is free.

Time I'd spend looking for patches to pirate for all my pirated games is worth more than the money I spend owning the games.

I don't pirate games, because I'm not a nigger.
>>
>>382094632
>>382094661
opportunity cost of your money i mean... even though you're saving time on the patches you're losing the money that you could have made investing in securities or on venture capital... im a hardcore penny pincher, i just don't understand the mindset of spending money on stuff that would otherwise be free.. i only spend money if there's a hot girl involved or if i'm treating someone to dinner or something desu
>>
>>382094807
time=money
if you believe saving money is worth your time, go ahead. some people think time is worth their money.
you have to make sacrifices in order for what you want.
>>
>>382094807
I earn a little over $50 an hour. It's not a massive amount, but it's more than enough to live comfortably. I also do a lot of overtime, which is worth a little over $100 an hour.

As a result I value an hour of my free time at a rate greater than $50. If I spent an hour looking for valid pirated patches for five pirated $10 indie games (and I own a ton of cheap indie games), I'd have wasted what is of greater value to me than the $50 the games would have cost me to buy to begin with.

Basically if $50-$60 will save me an hour of my leisure time, I will happily pay that cost.
>>
>>382090271
If everyone thought this way, who the fuck would make games?
Are you mentally challenged or mentally retarded?
>>
>>382094976
true, does that mean you just blow money on whatever saves you time though??? or is there certain things that you would be like "eh fuck it, i'll do it myself?" like do you clean your own place or do you just have a maid service, because i feel like cleaning takes way more time than finding a good torrent for around the same cost
>>
>>382090271
I buy single player games because I want more of them, if you don't buy them they won't make more.
>>
>>382095129
Not him, I'm >>382094040, >>382094632, and >>382095081

I don't pay for cleaning because I actually find cleaning to be cathartic. It helps me unwind. I put on some music I like or a movie while I clean and I generally feel really good afterwards.

If I hated cleaning though, absolutely, I'd pay someone to do it for me.

Working sucks, and you spend most of your adult life doing it. You have to use the money you earn working to pay for things that make you happy. It's how you offset the daily grind. I own a nice inner city apartment and have enough disposable income after my mortgage to live in a way that makes me happy. I don't travel much, which is something you mentioned earlier, but I also don't get much out of traveling. But for me that is offset by spending my money on making general life more comfy and removing annoyances. One of those is in actually buying games so I don't have to fuck around with pirating updates. I also pay for a meal service because I fucking loathe cooking.

If spending makes you happier than saving would have, it's worth it. Even if you're buying something like clothes for your faggot barbie character in an MMORPG.
>>
>>382090271
and charity is a virtue, so what exactly is your point?
>>
>>382095514
that makes sense then. i work from home and i don't do shit all day, but i have worked in an office before and despised the lack of free time.. i guess i'll lose my free ride soon and i'll probably get a lot more understanding of your perspective at that point

you are talking out of your ass, unless you're talking about downloading from shady sites (that is, any sensible person ready to pirate would go for torrents on bay, which have never infected in years PC)

Still in early access, now has online multiplayer, and a lot more content. Physics have been redone multiple times and are now in a pretty good spot. Seems to be progressing pretty well.
