Not really, on UVHM you just can't play braindead, you need to have some kind of build with skills and weapons synergising together. Focus one skill tree at the very least with appropriate weapons. Slag's pretty much mandatory, but most characters have some kind of ability to induce it.
At OP or against Raid Bosses only couple of viable builds per character remain and you typically have to grind for specific gear.
It's a loot game, that's the very point.

UVHM was a piece of cake because I had pretty much every unique/legendary and the best variants of them by that point and I had every character except Zero maxed out because me and my friend did runs together. If you used slag and changed elements properly and knew how to spec without wasting slots you could mow down everything easily except the sponge DLC bosses with bullshit practically unavoidable AoE attacks.

Jack was the only tolerable character in the second and third games and was also good in the Telltale cash-in. Whether he was right in terms of the game's fucked up and horribly written lore doesn't matter, because he's objectively the only good character.

As for the fucked up and horribly written lore he went a little crazy but overall he was definitely in a better moral position than the main cast. A huge badass too which is why I think the ayyliums will revive him for 3. His boss fight is fucking hard when his AI doesn't break like every other enemy in the game who acts like a doorlicking fuckhead.

Glad Steam removed the shitty DRM and picked up multiplayer when gamespy died with the first game, I hope they keep the second game alive as well.
Gunplay and melee builds are more on point with Borderlands 1 and it's UI is built for KBM instead of console, replay audio is great also.
Talent builds and Gun quality choice of unique guns is better in Borderlands 2(mostly due to way longer dlc that actually has shit worth farming) and better characters, but has a way shittier UI and isn't nearly as good with extra features. There's also way more shit to collect in Borderlands 2 as well achievement farming is actually worthwhile.

I'm hopeful for the third game, but I'm sure they are gonna fuck it up somehow.

I actually liked how the story was basically nonexistent. It really made the world seem more pessimistic, reaffirmed that Pandora was a backwater shithole that no sane individual would end up on. There was still enough flavor text/dialogue to make the game universe seem interesting, details about how the Crimson Lance operated and the motivations of the various megacorporations.
