You should try it out. The boosting mechanic isn't explained well, but you can search up a tiny tutorial on how to do it. Very fun game

Redout has several influences from F-Zero GX as well as Wipeout:
A boost you can use anytime, tracks you magnetically stick to which twist and turn at impossible angles and sometimes upside down, strafing instead of airbreaks, lack of pickups.
Also the handling is something else entirely.
Wipeout may be floaty, but Redout has you sliding all over the place. There's little traction and your craft really just wants to keep going in its direction. Turning requires you to really make use of the strafe. Boost can also help, but using it to stabilize in turns is suboptimal if you're going for platinum medals or leaderboards.

The actual assets and textures and shit are fairly repetitive, low res, or low poly. You know, like pretty much every fast racing game of the time.

It's almost entirely orange-yellow and red on dark blue, and that's about as garish as the game ever gets.
