Gameplay is the interaction between the player, and the game, and is what sets it apart from other visual mediums, such as movies. If your games is mostly cutscenes, with very little interaction besides selecting to move on to the next cutscene, then you can hardly call it a video game. So yes, gameplay is clearly the most important aspect in video games. Well second actually, the first is being able to play the game at all, ergo the controls.

Of course you can, but that basically just puts you on a timer. The more you play of both, the more you will start to realize the mindset of current developers compared with past developers. Then again, you could get lucky and only get good or great modern games, its all about your intuition on being able to tell if a game is going to be good or not. I play both old and new games, and haven't regretting either in a while, so my intuition is probably around average.

Again, now that I think about it, this is also completely right to me. Graphics can be high, or low, but without a decent art design to keep it together, it would overall look bland and formless. Tacky and unpolished.

At first, I really didn't agree with you here. But when I thought about it, I realized that Story isn't here because it needs to be, but because its the default position. One of these has to end up last, and when you really think about it, it makes sense for it to be last in priority. You can have gameplay without story, but you cannot have story without gameplay. Same for music, art direction, and graphics.

Not really, you can still make a visually appealing game without AAA graphics engines. For example, Sonic Mania which looks beautiful even though it's emulating 16 bit games. Another example is Ace Attorney, which managed to have expressive and memorable sprites using the Game Boy Advance.
