I was just emulating Super Mario 3D World. I just can't do it anymore though. I haven't enjoyed a Super Mario game since 64. Even Sunshine felt meh to me at that point in my life. I grew up on the 80s and early 90s Marios. Grew out of it very quickly after 64. While 64 felt unique and fresh, the series has stagnated hard ever since. I just feel like I'm going through the motions playing any one of those games today.

Breath of the Wild would be my go to emulation choice but it fucking crashes every 10-30 minutes which is fucking awful to play. Fuck. I used to love emulating so many different games. Today with my beast i7 7700k and GTX 1080 Ti rig, I just can't be fucked to really play anything anymore. Why am I still here?

It's more work than it's worth honestly. I used to modestly collect before everyone got a bug up their ass about retro stuff. Had a job at a small video game store but before I left the writing was on the wall. People slowly leaking in wanting more retro stuff, people wanting way too much for common retro titles and obvious resellers sneaking in. Stopping into any store that carries old-school stuff now is painful.

At this point if I hear of any good deals they're gone. Any games sold locally are from resellers or delusional people or greedy places that jack up prices to ridiculous amounts. It's just not worth the hassle. You could use a pre 1.8 version of CEMU. I heard the crashing is only a problem on 1.8 and up because of the new shader methods.

I don't think there's really even a choice for newer consoles, as for older ones I don't really know. The only difference tends to be how accurate they are to the actual console and that usually involves stuff 99% of people wouldn't even notice. It'd be hard to go wrong.
