For older "strategy/tactics" games you really can't go wrong with the Commandos games and Jagged Alliance games. Xenonauts is pretty solid and a bit more recent. Probably played all of that already though.

I'm thinking of getting some of the Total War games since I've had a lot of fun with Medieval II back in the day as well as Empire.
What's up with these package deals though. The cheaper Master Collection includes Rome II but none of the DLC while the more expensive Grandmaster Collection seems to include DLC but not Rome II.

Then there's Kingdoms, Napoleon, Fall of the Samurai and a similar spin-off for Rome II(?). The fuck is Vikings?

I'm just confused at what to get but mostly interested in Shogun 2 and Rome II.

If you have lots of time on your hands and enjoy games with deep story and lore, Sunless Sea is fantastic. You captain a ship and have to manage fuel, supplies, and the terror of your crew as you try to earn enough money to get from port to port and scratch the surface of some of the mysteries of the strange setting the game takes place in. It has a lot of really tense moments where you set out and get waylaid by something you didn't anticipate and lose a ton of crew and sanity or run out of fuel and have to pray to a god who may or may not set you across the map in an even worse position than you started in. The early game is slow as fuck, but once you upgrade your engines it really takes off.

It's only 5.69 right now without the DLC, but I'd recommend not even bothering with it until you've come close to completing the game once.

Dragon's Dogma is great on KB+M actually, though I still prefer gamepad. I use this for games on PC. Excellent build quality, works with any XBone drivers, and has the paddles that the Elite controller has. Had mine for about 2 years and it has done me no wrong thus far.

If you happen to have extra money, want another game and can somehow convince a friend to play 2:OTR in coop, which surprisingly worked and was fun, do so as well. Shogun 2 is fine, it's just really fast paced compared to some other total war games, and it uses different strategies.

By far the most abundant troop uses a lance. Every army has loads of them. The gameplay is build around having walls of yari ashigaru while doing other things. This also means that cavalry, already being fairly scarce and weak, are even weaker, so it largely takes away that aspect of the game and converts them into early shock troops to disrupt formations. Other units like swordsmen are more expensive and harder to spam, so some of the variety goes with that.

It's not the most conventional Total War game, but it's good. If you decide to play it because you like the setting, it's fine, and if you decide to go with another game, it's fine too. They will have a lot of differences so both have merit.

Its alright. Movement feels great and the world has a lot of vertical space. Most missions are either races or a sport thing where you try to take a ball to opposing teams goal. The races are great but the later I found got pretty miserable solo relying on AI teamates. Story is pretty bad but OST is alright and has 2 tracks by the JSRF guy. Don't think they are as good as JSRF stuff but they're ok (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FsyVf4hWvw). Game isn't super long took me about 5-6 hours. Overall I don't regret backing it on KS for $20 but it didn't blow me away.
