My point is to make the system more consumer friendly. Let everyone play any game for free for the first 2 hours, and then have it say you need to pay to continue after that.

The problem is that demos either cherry pick the "good" parts while hiding the bad stuff, or there's no demo at all. People should be given FULL access to the game for the first 2 hours so they can see if the game is good for them or not. Obviously exceptions and adjustments can be made to this (such as JRPG's with really long opening cutscenes, games that are really short, etc).

Microsoft is even purshing further in that direction with Windows 10 S which will only run UWP software purchased from the Windows Store. Even if its possible to disable that lock with DLC how long till games require you to have the lock active in order to run?

The only way to stop this is to support alternatives, and GNU/Linux today with thousands of native games, thousands more through compatibility layers and emulators, and open source drivers for some hardware faster than the official ones from the hardware vendors themselves is the best option we're ever going to get that isn't controlled by a console company or a phone company with ulterior motives.
