Let's be honest. Arms is boring as fuck now and won't hold and lasting appeal like splatoon did. The only reason we bought it was because it's a switch exclusive and there's nothing else to play.
Anyone else bummed out by how lackluster this game is?
>>
I didn't buy it.

Yeah, this game is basically a 4/10. No depth really beyond the different types of arms. Only moves are punch, grab, block, and dodge/dash. AI blatantly cheats. It's just not fun.
>>
I like the characters and all, but it got boring real quick.

What really boggles my mind is most people refuse to acknowledge when they recognize a game will be a shallow waste of their time.

They just buy it anyway.

You knew it was going to be like this just from the first footage of it and the testfires.

You knew it wasn't going to last longer than a few days tops.

I like it a lot. What I don't like is how all the fighters have access to all ARMS. It'd be so much easier to figure everything out and work on matchups if they just had their default ARMS. All ARMS is going to kill this game competitively.

You can use anything you want. Which means everyone is just using the best characters with the best ARMS. If defaults were only allowed then people would have to make use of what their character has and the game would be a lot more balanced.

There are much bigger problems with this game than the controls. Of course I had no trouble with them, so maybe that's easy for me to say.

>There are much bigger problems with this game than the controls

Well yeah, but the motion controls is what ultimately made a lot of people pan it.
Also the fact it's a shittier version of SF64, even though we already had a good port on the 3DS
>>
>>382070890
It has more problems, yes, but the controls are still bad.
There is a reason why everyone loved the gyro in Splatoon, and hated it in Zero.

>>
>tfw I haven't touched my Switch in days
I think the rose tinted glasses are wearing off. When I save up enough, I'm investing in a PS4.
>>
>>382069331
I agree with everything there except buying it because it was an exclusive and having nothing else to play. I have a PS4 and a PC, as well. I bought Arms because it looked interesting. It's decent, but it doesn't have much lasting appeal on a casual level and core problems hold it back from being fun as even a sort of amateur pseudo-competitive game, let alone full blown esports or whatever Nintendo hopes it can become. Unfortunately I don't think this game can be fixed by content updates and patches. The core of Splatoon was more fun, it was just light on content and modes. Adding more characters and arms and stages won't do much for Arms. I think adding more arms will make the game worse, in fact, and the first character a month after the game comes out being Max Brass is incredibly disappointing as someone who was looking forward to what sort of support this game was going to get. Max Brass is barely new, and even if they do add a character a month, we're looking at two months after launch until we see something new, and Splatoon will already be out. It needed to get a foothold before Splatoon came out to survive.

I do hope it sold well regardless, because I have high hopes for what a sequel could be like if they actually try and refine what they have here. But there isn't anybody I could currently recommend Arms to.

There is literally nothing wrong with Zero's controls, especially if you turn on the alternative fire mode which makes them more intuitive than any other control scheme in the series.

I thought Zero needed more missions and have some actual on-rails bosses, but I didn't hate it. It's miles and miles better than any other post-64 abomination.

Okay, lemme rephrase. The controls probably make the game unplayable if you're shit, can't adapt to anything, and/or didn't know about the alternate setting. Happy?
>>
>>382075114
You're just wrong. People were fine with Splatoons gyro and hated it in Zero, for good reason
>>
>>382075114
Nah, man. The game had shit gyro.
64 3D did it better.
>>
>>382075251
Other way around for me. I hated the gyro in Splatoon but liked it in Zero. Like I said, most people were probably frustrated because they couldn't keep their reticle centered properly, but if you flip the alternate controls on the reticle actually re-aligns itself every time you release the fire button and makes the game control like a dream. There's no reason not to use it and I can't imagine the kind of person that would have trouble with that control scheme.

If you can get someone with a good connection or in the same room with you, I think the game is really fun. I like how more patient play is rewarded then doing some 50 hit combo that lasts forever. But nope. You have to do it for each and every fucker.

There's definitely balance problems regarding the different ARMS you can use, stun and freeze are useless comapred to shock because they're all stuns but shock is objectively better.

However, there's still a lot of potential for mastering movement and the psychology of the game, and angling punches into opponents can be really tricky if you have a small ARM

It seems like using a controller gives you better movement options but using motion controllers gives you better offensive ones. Though, some of the motion control stuff is a bit of a mind fuck for me for some reason. Stuff like tilting left or right to move but also throwing a punch at the same time while also curving it and then going back to tilting just never feels natural and I tend to fuck it up with my left hand the most. I kind of hate how you can't have the best of both worlds on a particular control scheme.
>>
>>382076605
not sure if you're joking, but for honor is a joke and garbage. I figured this out during beta, it looks beautiful, but the gameplay is lacking a lot. 1v1 ok, other than that it's just a gank fest with dynasty warriors going on in the background.
>>
>>382069331
I fucking warned you, moron. They gave us six demo days and that was more than enough to tell me Arms low number of moves and unlockable gloves for every character was going to kill variety.
>>
>>382076771
The game just runs two camera angles at the same time, it's not like the controls or your weapons change depending on which camera you're using. First person just gives you a narrower reticle, like aiming in a TPS or FPS.
>>

>>382077208

>>
>>382077480
>Your field of vision and reticle are wider in third person so naturally it's harder to aim.
You're being intentionally obtuse.
The first person view in SF64 was completely optional, it was never required for precise aiming, because they balanced the game around the third person view. Zero is balanced around the first person view, the player is more or less forced to use it.
The entire reason that Aquarosa has a locked camera angle in third person is so the player HAS to use the gamepad.
>>

>>
>>382077710
How does any of that contradict that the game would be the same if it was in a console with just one screen? You can swap cameras.
>>
A few questions:

Why on earth didn't they port Smash to the Switch as a launch title? As it is, the Switch only really has Breath of the Wild. Sure, Mario Kart is good if you haven't played 8 yet but ARMS is laughably shallow. What were they thinking? Is there a port in the works?

Why would Nintendo continue to push motion controls with the Joy-Cons but not include any sort of analogue for the Wii point controls? Because now, it's impossible for Nintendo to rerelease or port most Wii/WiiU titles. The ones they can will likely require a large amount of reworking to port, like the Epic Yarn games and Mario Galaxy.

Why did Nintendo create the plug and play SNES instead of just releasing SNES ROMs on the Switch's eShop? Now they're just cannibalizing their market. I, for one, would have loved to have bought Earthbound on my Switch. Now that I think of it, do they have any idea how much buzz they could have gotten by making the English-localized Mother 3 a Switch eShop exclusive?

Why would Nintendo release a console that had 3 games on release, with only one major release in three months, with the console's flagship title being multiplat with the WiiU, and restrict the number of units created for the American market? They have to know that the Switch is a niche item in the games market right now, but still the people that actually desire one have huge issues getting one.
>>
>>382078062
Swapping cameras wouldn't be a necessity to gameplay if there was just one screen.
Iwata tasked Miyamoto with making a game that made the gamepad a necessity, Zero is the result of that.
>>
>>382070253

It's a new fighting game series. You have to start somewhere. So it's not unexpected for it to be bare bones.
>>
>>382078114
They wanted to give ARMS room to breathe and they're doing fine without Smash right now. It's definitely coming next year I think.
>>
>>382078148
But the gamepad is not a necessity, you can play the whole thing just looking at your TV or your gamepad. You can swap cameras and looking at the two screens at the same time is not even humanly possible.

Pokken is an actual competitive fighting game, but it's also pretty accessible to newcomers who aren't used to them, without sacrificing the upper skill ceiling.

Basically, it's like what SFV was trying to do, except done right. You'll still have fun with it even if you aren't super good as long as you don't mind playing online. It's got barely any single player content, though, like ARMS.

I'm already bored of it because of the exploits. I keep facing people that can dash and punch constantly, which makes it literally impossible to beat them. They basically skate around so fast your camera can't keep up for you to try to hit them and they constantly throw punches so their RUSH meter fills instantly. I kind of want to just go into Ranked, but I only just got the game and I'd get my ass kicked.

If you can beat Level 4 GP then you'll do alright in Ranked.

I've only won a single 1v1 in Party mode. I might need a lot of practice.

>best characters in a boxing game are the ones with the best mobility

colour me not surprised
>>
>>382069331
I don't know why you're suprised. It's a fighting game, they get boring incredibly fast and there's infinitely better non-gimick fighting games on offer anyway
>>
Can't wait for Splatoon to eat this game's lunch so it can fade into obscurity with weeks

>Was gonna buy Pokken just because Empoleon is the shit, but if it's just going online to get my shit kicked by turbo autist street fighter 2 (turbo) chads then I'm out

Pokken's kind of weird. Making a misread can really fuck you up, even default combos can deal a fair amount of damage.

The only real thing you have to worry about it whether or not they fixed the online from the WiiU version.

>even default combos can deal a fair amount of damage.

Sure but not going for optimal ones is still going to fuck you over against people who know what they are doing, along with lacking fundamentals
>>
>>382082519
I don't know about the new characters, but most combos are pretty easy, unless you're playing Garchomp.
>>
>>382079172
I don't get what you mean? Even if it was a casual baby game you'd still get your ass kicked online if you aren't willing to learn from your losses.

fuck you guys I like it

You aren't forced to play party mode. And if you are such a fag, just stick to ranked anyway.

Jesus, /v/ is so bad that basic gameplay is too much for them... I'm glad discussion is staying on /vg/ where people actually try a little bit.

preordered this pos to support the devs. Oh my god this game is a piece of shit. The online community didn't even last a week. They released an unfinished game and now they are releasing a console version with the pc still being broken as shit.

Honestly though...this game looked fucking rad with the trailers etc etc. I thought it was going to be at least ok because the devs are the EYE guys.
>>
>>382083090
Weavile's are also complicated, since most of his combos that go over like 150 damage or so (that don't use ice punch, anyways, but ice punch is super unsafe, so) require chaining icicle crash hits together.

I don't play machamp or sceptile but a lot of their combos seem pretty long too, but machamp also has plenty of single moves that do like 200 damage.
>>
>>382078470
There's no way this gets a sequel. It got shit out so switch owners have something to buy in the first year

Nigger, what?

>3machoor5u /v/ hates a Nintendo exclusive

Oh no, how ever will Nintendo recover from all the sales. Surely this is a shock, fedora-wearing Mountain Dewritos ponyfuckers hate a good game. Oh no. Nintendo is doomed.

>Everyone bought it expecting a L4D coop game
>It's Republican Commando 2 with a tacked-on, limited multiplayer

DON'T ADVERTISE YOUR GAME AS A GAME TO PURGE XENO SCUM WITH YOUR BROS IF YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE THE MULTIPLAYER A PIECE OF SHIT
>>
>>382078987
How the fuck can you play a game for nearly 1500 hours and still be bad at it? It's just not adding up.
>>
>>382085372
It's not that i'm bad. I'm not, it's that the game has that much depth that there's still that many people better then you by that point.

1400 hours is nothing for a fighting game in terms of actually being good enough to win tournaments.

Someone has got to explain to me what makes Kid Cobra so good. Is it the fast jumps? Before he gets charged he's super sluggish (aside from jumping), and his charged dashes seem so situational because you have to charge and they only last as long as your arms would stay charged. When I played around with him it felt like off of a charge I had to choose between throwing out a punch or a sneaky slide, trying to get do both would result in me getting hit charging up or doing a very predictable rushed dash->punch sequence before I lost it. It isn't like a bunch of other characters' regular dodges aren't totally sufficient for getting out of the way of stuff either. Sliding under stuff also just seems riskier than you need to be. In spite of all of this I can't deny having trouble against some Kid Cobras in ranked, but I can't identify what it is about them.
