Plays differently. Witch Doctor is largely a spellcaster with SOME pets. Necro can be spellcaster, summoner, or melee.

Thematically, Witch Doctor deals in spirits, poison, ritualistic stuff and raising zombies with some animalistic stuff (Toads, zombie dogs, zombie pirandhas).

Necromancer manipulates blood, bone, the essence of death, crippling curses and has many pets in the form of the bones of dead beings.

They're very different from one another. I don't know why the fuck they thought WD and Necro were too identical in the first place.

The goal of D3 was solely to test monetization models. D3 was built entirely around the real money auction house, not the other way around. This test was for an upcoming WoW replacement. The test failed and the RMAH was removed. The WoW replacement was scrapped and had to be redesigned because they expected that model to work. Now D3 is being "fixed" and they have the test results and needed and your upfront money. They still made a shitload on box sales up front, so it is hard to say it is a failure from a business perspective, but it wasn't the game people wanted and it wasn't the results they planned for.

I still can't decide if I should buy necro. On one hand they don't deserve the money, on other hand I want the extra stash tabs, and wanna fuck with the class for a week.

But like the EPIC CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE it is there was no long tail planned, it's run like a Hollywood movie economically. The income is all massively front loaded, then they just switch to ultra minimal running cost maintenance mode with the occasional cheap ass expansion/dlc to milk retards a bit more. They made their money, it's not subscription and the RMAH didn't work out so they can't milk that angle either. They have no incentive to give a shit about it anymore, except maybe to try a more cheaply made D4 in another 3-5 years when the inevitable "it wasn't so bad" has kicked in and some memories have faded and count on people "giving it one more shot."
