Shadow of Mordor is looking pretty good at it's sale price. I've seen some gameplay videos, and I'm excited for the Nemesis system. The sequel looks like it's focusing heavily on the Nemesis system and expanding on it (probably the best thing it could have done from my point of view), but I wasn't sure if I should just wait a year or two for the sequel to go on sale.

I haven't played any of the Assassin's Creed or Arkham games. When I saw a store display for the first Arkham Asylum, I just assumed it was another shitty licensed game. Sue me. I never upgraded to the XBox 360/PS3 generation, and only got a 360 controller for PC recently.

Should I get it? I tend to go for games where I can jump in for an hour or three once in a while and fuck around. Things like Warframe, Dirty Bomb, Factorio, Guild Wars 2, and a cheezy zombie beat-em-up game.

Basically, Will I have to invest a lot of time learning the game's systems and keeping my skills polished in them to have a good time, or can I get over that first learning hump and then just fuck around in the game occasionally in short ~1 hour sessions at irregular intervals?

Hyper Light Drifter is more about Visuals and sound than being a game, Salt and Sanc is supposed to be pretty good but flawed in some areas. I have heard nothing bad at all about Hollow knight. so I would go with that I guess.

I've got 3 hours into hollow knight and the only thing that really jumps out at me is the animation and art direction. Good use of colors and bug motif. The music is ehhh when I hear or am aware of it which is rarely. The movement is slow and unsatisfying but as a metroidvania that's to be expected once you invest in it enough you get all your jumps dashes etc. The magic system is pretty reasonable and new way to spice up a subweapon but nothing crazy.

tl;dr only get hollow knight if you are itching for a metroidvania and like bugs. it's not super deep mechanically or lorely. It's like a cutesouls platformer really.

No gripes no dicksucking solid 4/5 on a scale of 5 out of 5 on a 5 tier metric of 5 possible scores.

I'm only 12 or so hours in but it's shaping up to be a solid GOTY contender. Definitely having more fun than with Dishonored, although it has a few problems. Enemy and combat variety in particular is pretty terrible.

i bought shadow of mordor around christmas time and only played it yesterday

i dont really like assassins creed games because i dont find the controls smooth at all

shadow of mordor is a fun killing game, running around fucking shit up. the open world aspect is nice as well, you can choose which orcs to hunt down


also if a random orc kills you he gets a name and a promotion and turns into a mini boss and you can go back and hunt them down, i found this to be a unique mechanic for sure


i'd say get it dude, it's not a lord of the rings game really more like a game of thrones hack n slash with some stealth elements. some pretty good customization options as well. good graphics. i have like 4 hours played its fun so far

There is a ton of content and it controls like a dream.
Mercs mode is the best and you can easily sink 100+ hours into that alone.
Main game is fun, as long as you don't take it too seriously.

Haven't played many "shock"-type games but it's definitely better than Infinite. Right now I'd say it's more open than Dishonored/Human Revolution at the expense of build variety, although I haven't gotten the chance to try the alien powers yet so that might change. Up to you whether you want to drop $40 on it, the best I can do is say it's pretty much exactly what the pre-release coverage suggests.

Get rid of Goat Sim, Everything, Always, Among the Sleep, Contrast, Novelist, and Corpse Party. Goat Sim and Everything are dumb meme games, Constrast and Among the Sleep are short and simple concepts that don't pay off, Always isn't good, and the rest are really linear story focused titles that have no replay value.

The Escapists is interesting and pretty good at what it does, although it can become repetitive and trial-and -error focused at times.

The Void is good but it is ridiculously weird and obtuse, so maybe it isn't for you.

Eldritch is pretty enjoyable if you want a FPS rogue like where you have to be sneaky, smart and resourceful. The level generation works really well. I would hold on to that one.

I've heard good things about Talos and Rabi Ribi. Rabi Ribi seems too pricey for your budget though unless you really want it.

Not really comparable. Everspace is a roguelike with Elite Dangerous-ish combat and Strike Suit Zero is more a linear, arcadey Ace Combat or Star Fox kind of game. The latter is much cheaper though, so I say go for that until next sale when Everspace will probably half what it's at right now.
