you can also get the L'hiver but it makes the game much more difficult so it's not recommended for newfags

There are no small mods like for Bethesda that add a few items or NPCs, there are complete overhauls that change the entire game and add entire new maps so you should finish the game first before you try those

But with Gothic I don't feel like I was memed into buying something I didn't like and I'm impressed by how much choice I have, which is what actually impressed me about the Witcher as well. Meaningful choices that alter your experience between playthrough such as deciding whether to join the Paladins, Mages, or Mercenaries and who to apprentice under.
