I just started playing the game too. I thought Daisoujou wasn't hard, just long. After debuffs he hits for very little provided he doesn't get lucky with the Mamudos.

I can't put my finger on why the game is fun though. I can safely say I would not like it if it were my first SMT game, luckily IV and Persona 3/4/5 whet my appetite. I might even try I and II after this even though I've always hated first person dungeon crawling

Accuracy buffs and debuffs are what saved my ass since he kept essentially handing half of his turns to me. Also I'm pretty sure I got lucky with the insta-kills since he only cast one Mamudoon(?) once, and no one ate it.
I totally feel you, the only SMT game I've played prior to this is Digital Devil Saga which I almost beat and Nocturne basically feels like a harder version of it, but with a cooler demon party customization and fusions. DDS ain't bad but I'll have a hard time going back to it after this.

His Mamudoon always killed one demon but thankfully never the MC, so I had to keep subbing in new guys. Most of the fight was just regular attacks (because no MP) and the occasional Media if I could use it before the demon's MP got drained to 0. On paper it was an uneventful fight, but was a pretty good endurance test.

I'm at Assembly of Nihilo now.

So after you kill Merkabah the plan is that everyone from Mikado move to Tokyo.... why?

It's completely retarded. Why doesnt everyone move to Mikado instead? Mikado has lush green plains, mountains, lakes, forests and pristine architecture and agriculture and cattle. Not to mention NO demons outside of Naraku and Kiccigiorgi Forest (even in the endgame the citizens are only just discovering demons exist). On the other hand Tokyo is a rotting city with destroyed buildings, several unlivable poisoned areas, no reliable source of food and water besides scavenging, pollution, and of course fucking demons everywhere. Even if Masakado can fix Tokyo to an extent it's just a no brainer that Mikado is a better place to live in once the Lawfags running it are dead.

It's stupid, this game is stupid. Seriously I was 'mirin the gorgeous backgrounds and architecture of Mikado so hard before the ending, such a shame it literally gets all rekt for stinky Tokyo

Real talk though.
I am really playing through Nocturne right now for the first time.I played it like twice before, but furthest I got was Mizuchi's dungeon, because something always got in the way.
I just finished the last kalpa and I can see why people love it.
Atmosphere is great and has an OST that really amplifies that atmosphere, the magatama system is really neat and all in all a really solid game, but what I really don't get is why people say IV and IVA is hot garbage compared to it.
Nocturne did a lot of things better than IV and IVA, but going from IV to Nocturne you can see that they also improved on tons of shit like having sidequests, a way better QOL, better movement and more dynamic movement outside of battle (I know it sounds kinda nitpicky, but Nocturnes movement feels kinda stiff), skill inheritance not being RNG and smirk is a nice addition after it.got fixed in IVA and so does affinities.
The story if smt IV isn't the best, but Nocturne's story isn't all that great either I mean it has a really cool lore with the amala network/conception/great will and all, but there really isn't much of a story everything kinda happens at the last minute when everyone gets their sponsor.
I also liked having people to interract with or react to stuff what was happening in the story since demifiend really doesn't react to anything at all.

Tl:dr I think Nocturne is the better game, but I do think SMT IV/IVA improved a lot on a lot of things, I hope they will one day combine all the good aspects of both games in one perfect smt game, but I have feeling that might never happen.
also I fucking love Dante, I never played the original DMC only that one reboot I thought was okay, but Dante is really making me want to play the original games.

Haven't played DeSu yet, but DDS is one of the most medicore MegaTen spinoffs. It's not awful, but it's not great either, especially not DDS2.

Gameplay-wise it's better, but some of the dungeons aren't great, the setting is way, way less interesting than the first one's setting and so is the story, except for when it's continuing a plotline from DDS1. The music is better in my opinion though, which is saying a lot because the first one has an excellent soundtrack.

The party was changing constantly and I loved the new mechanics like berserk mode and rings but then the passing stops and the second half of the game is you, floating around the final dungeon, fighting boring battles around samey corridors.

I must say though, some scenes in DDS2 like Sera gaining an atma were great.
