In that scenario, the Korok seed hunt probably matches up best against the Witcher Gear recipe hunts. Both were kinda tedious, but I think the koroks come out ahead just on the strength of some of the little puzzles.

It doesn't, because you're comparing two different things. Majora's Mask had the best story for a ZELDA game. Of course it's not going to compare to an RPG on story, that's ridiculous. Witcher lived on the strength of its story and characters. Its mediocre combat system didn't matter because that wasn't the point of the game - exploration, character development and narrative were. And it excelled in those categories.

Zeldas are action / puzzle games, always have been. Their stories range from the superfluous (like the original) to the decent (MM), but that's not really the point. You come out because of the swords and arrows and pushing blocks and finding walls to bomb and so on. The story is tertiary. BotW is good at doing what zelda does.. exploration, puzzles, creative problem solving, lots of wacky tools and moves. Judged by that metric, Witcher 3 looks like utter crap. And that's fine. I wouldn't ask a game like BotW game to be more strategic than an RTS, or more adrenalin-pumping than a shooter. That wasn't the point.

That's really hard to compare. W3 had a standard difficulty setting choice at the beginning. And having played it on the hardest setting, it's definitely not a cakewalk. Any monster fight in the first half of the game you don't prepare for can easily take you out.

Zelda doesn't have a difficulty setting explicitly, but it seemed to me that it was sorta designed to choose your own difficulty as you went along. That Lynel, for instance, you don't actually have to fight, you can just sneak around the outside of his zone and steal the shock arrows. The whole game constantly lets you choose between doing things the direct, hard way or the roundabout-but-easier way.

Charging headlong into every available enemy, sure, BotW is every bit as tricky as Witcher on death march. But if you choose to take the longer road in zelda, collecting all the power ups, stocking up heals, and approaching things only when you're ready, it's not any harder than mid-difficulty witcher.

Well, opinions differ. I think Bloodborne looks like fucking trash because it's literally just dark corridors that don't even let me climb or jump over fences. I can't get amazed by fancy backgrounds. I just can't. That's also why Uncharted doesn't blow me away. Bloodborne and Souls are also 100% non-interactive and even trees and grass usually isn't moving at all.

Bloodborne is a corridor game that doesn't even let you jump over that very, very fence you see in your picture, though. This is a fact and not subjective. Meanwhile you can traverse absolutely everything in that right picture. This is what people are amazed by. The devs for the respective games spent their time in different places. Bloodborne devs invested all their effort into textures, high poly counts, particles and lighting effects. They were going the photorealistic route which is a very high bar to aim at (and looks comparatively bad now next to HZD).

Zeldas devs spent their time refining the models and animations as much as possible. They went the cartoony route for style and so invested comparatively little time (I imagine) into textures and lighting. Their target was a little lower, but they hit the mark dead on.

This didn't bother me that much in BotW, and I was one of the people getting real damn sick of the AC tower model.

For one thing, there were relatively few towers / large areas (about 15, IIRC). And it felt like they made a point of how you access each tower being unique to the region. And then they're not done, the towers after completion do double duty as fast travel points and quick access to surrounding areas from the air. So it didn't bother me as much as I thought it might going in.

I personally liked Bloodborne more because it had online play, a setting I found to be a lot more interesting, and more enjoyable combat. The bosses and enemies were also a lot more interesting. There was never a point in BOTW that I liked as much as my first encounter with Logarius, Ludwig, or Gehrman. In fact, I felt like BOTW bosses in general were pretty bad.

I like BOTW though and don't regret buying the Switch for it. Probably my favorite game of 2017 so far.
