I have actually never married in Rune Factory and almost always give up. Closest I've come are 2 and 3, barely played 4.

I failed in 2 because I accidentally deleted a save when I thought I was loading it.

Not having dungeons really feels like a whole chunk is missing. I know Story of Seasons is supposed to replace Harvest Moon and not RF but it just feels kinda lacking. I finish up all my daily duties fast and have nothing to do for hours. Not to mention getting materials for simple shit like outfits takes fucking ages and will end up costing you a ridiculous amount. The thing about Trio is that it starts out slow, but quickly opens up in the middle of the first month when the other town opens up.
Most people have the problem with finishing up chores too early, but very quickly they'll find they have too many things to do and not enough time.

The progression system definitely is a bit on the slow side, but I don't mind that. There's plenty of ways to speed up how you level crops and animals too.

The only real flaw I see is the town rank system requirements. Some are fine, but those time sensitive crops are a wall unless you have access to the cellar on your farm.
Besides that it's a top tier HM game and one of the best in the series.

I'm in fall now, pursuing Inari actually. I think my main problem is that I feel like I'm way behind where I should be. I just got a horse the other day and got wild foxes to like me but in terms of expanding my farm and everything I don't think I'm doing enough. I had to skip the cooking festival since I didn't even buy any recipes yet. I may have sounded too harsh in my post but I really am enjoying it, especially since the last Harvest Moon game I played for an extended period was Magical Melody.

It's not replacing Harvest Moon, it IS the series formerly known as Harvest Moon in the west.

The Japanese game franchise, Bokujou Monogatari, was licensed to Natsume under the name Harvest Moon.
Marvelous decided that they wanted to use their own localization studio, XSeed, to handle the localization of Bokujou Monogatari in the future.
Problem: The name "Harvest Moon" is a Natsume copyright, and they aren't interested in giving it up. Thus, they decided on a new name for Bokujou Monogatari in the west, that being "Story of Seasons".

tl;dr: Story of Seasons is the current name for the Bokujou Monogatari franchise that we grew up with. The series that's currently called Harvest Moon is Natsume's ORIGINAL FRANCHISE DONOTSTEAL.
