Does anyone else think the tao deconfirmation is a ruse? He's such a weird character to single out and it isn't like mentioning dende, upa, oolong or even yajirobe. Tao is popular with maybe 100 people around the world, he won't be considered for a DBZ game that might have a small roster.

People thinking unique movesets will be THE deciding factor in this game are crazy, popularity reigns supreme in the deciding factor and uniqueness is only something to consider; the revealed characters so far are huge indication of it.

SSB Goku played identical to SSJ Goku, he was just much stronger. Same with SSG Goku being identical to Normal (non-SSJ) Goku just stronger so those don't really count as they were just bonus unlockable chars for beating the game entirely.

Also Extreme Butoden is as close as we got in recent years to a proper DBZ fighting game and not just casual arena shit. Extreme Butoden's problem is that it has some blatantly overpowered characters but people online tend to just ban them.

Also if you're a pirate I recommend playing the JPN version of Extreme Butoden for a couple of reasons:

1. It has 2 extra patches worth of new content and balancing (especially balancing) that never made it to the western version (1.4.0 and 1.5.0, Western 1.1.0 version is equal to JPN's 1.3.0).
2. It's compatible with the One Piece Butoden game for online play so you can fight One Piss characters.
3. It has extra stage (U6 Tournament Arena) and U6 chars as assists. Frost is very good and not having him just sucks.

Can't which part of the series is more popular, Japan doesn't care about that because they were introduced to the manga first and it was just called Dragonball from start to finish, only the west is more prone to treating the original series as having two parts.

Anyway, most of the series popular characters come from the later part of the series, Future Trunks is very popular, he was tanking all popularity polls when the manga was around the Android Saga, Vegeta got very popular during the Namek Saga, Freeza is the most popular canon villain, he sellls merch like crazy, Broly is the most popular non-canon villain by a wide margin, everything with name and likeness on it prints money, and so on.

ArcSys never gave a single fuck about uniqueness over popularity in any of their games, people are deluded if they think we'll get unique characters.
We may get someone unique in inevitable re-releases/sequels kind of like Ken&Koromaru in Persona 4 Ultimax (literally NOBODY except extreme niche wanted those chars) but that's it.

I predict the roster will be around 10-12 characters for first game, since that's the average for ArcSys games in "first" game of a series.

Persona 4 Arena: 10
Guilty Gear (PS1 original): 10

Extreme Butoden had 25 but it was a 2D game on 3DS and a couple of those were clones (SSG Goku is a powered up clone of Normal Goku, SSB Goku is a powered up clone of SSJ Goku, SSB Vegeta is a powered clone of SSJ Vegeta, Ultimate Gohan is a powered up clone of SSJ Teen Gohan).

Anyhow it's unrealistic to expect ~20 let alone 20+ roster from this so let's go with the average of 10-12 per new series from ArcSys, that leaves us with the following:

1. SSJ Goku
2. SSJ Vegeta
3. SSJ2 Kid Gohan
4. SSJ Trunks
5. Final Form Freeza
6. Perfect Cell
7. Majin Boo

That's already more than half of the roster known and ALL of them are returning veterans that were in all 3 games (SW1/SW2/EB).

I can also guarantee you that Kuririn, Piccolo and Android 18 will make it in since they were in all 3 previous games and are very popular so that leaves possibly 2 slots assuming they go with 12.

I wager the last two will be Ginyu (ArcSys love him and he poses unique moveset, was in all 3 previous games) and Gotenks (same reason as Ginyu).

Possibly maybe also Broly as obligatory dedicated grappler but he wasn't in SW1, only SW2 and EB.

Expect anything more than this purely as bonus and not guarantee, most likely DLC.

Why are character designs in Super so shit? It's like they literally never came up with an original idea, every new character looks like they were plundered from reused assets. I mean making a Fat Beerus and Genderbent whis is just the tip of the iceberg. All the angels look the damn same, and Grand Priest looks like a manlet Whis. Goku Black is literally just an edgy Goku, so it's a repeate of Turles again, and Zamasu is just a Green Supreme Kai. Frost looks like they traced over Frieza. Cabba looks like a 100 pound soaking wet Teen Vegeta. Hit has Cell's facial features with a dick for a head. I mean I can go on and on, that's not even getting into the shitty designs of the characters by themselves. Every single Mecha looks utterly generic when Toriyama used to be great at illustrating Mecha (just look read early Dragonball or Dr Slump and the different versions of Caramel Man. All the Anthropomorphized characters lack any personality and look utterly generic, when he used to have some cool ones like Giran. Oh and how can I forget the most obvious offenders redoing Kaioken and giving Super Saiyan a blue dye job and giving Frieza lakers colors. It literally might be the most artistically bankrupt anime I ever watched.

Well when it comes to Pokemon, you literally please the majority of the fanbase. Far too many characters that'll be left out. This game, I can only really see upsetting Dragonball part 1 fans (which I am btw) and Superfags, but majority will be happy with it being dominated by Z characters. The only other Tenkaichi games are Raging Blast 1 and 2.

RB1 has the story mode, but RB2 has the arcade mode, characters, and combat system. Those games are basically streamlined tenkaichi but with a cancel system.
