Yeah, Heretic/Hexen are long overdue for a nu-Doom-style revival. Especially since we finally gotten decent at first-person-melee combat.

Hexen 1 is pretty damn flawed, to be honest. Way too many annoying environmental puzzles and platforming, and some really baffling level design. Also sacrifices weapon variety for the sake of gimmicky classes.
Heretic was a lot better and elegant, gameplay-design wise.

But they are still both fun in their weird way.
I have no idea about the multiplayer.

I don't necessarily agree with >>382011509
but Hexen is a bit of an acquired taste. Don't go into expecting Doom. It's not Doom. It's almost like Metroid, or Prime for the first person aspect, in that you have a hub that branches off into multiple smaller levels that contain switches and keys that are used elsewhere to progress. As well as having multiple player classes that each have their own unique arsenals and certain inventory items function differently between them.

Multiplayer is really cool if you ever get a chance to play it. The different classes spice up the experience.
