GoG is pretty nice, but it has fuck all games which means you still need to use Steam, so I just find myself not using it all that much, I own a few DOS games on it and that's about it.

Steam saved PC gaming. Fucking Gamestop was killing all the PC-oriented stores and replacing them with Used Games pawnshops and Gaben had the right solution at the right time and didn't try to be a fat greedy jew about it. Steam would've flopped if all it offered was a one-time download mirror like a few publishers were toying with, but instead it boasted a digital library with unlimited re-downloads of owned games and wasn't publisher-specific.

GOG is good because it's essentially archiving a museum of classic vidya, but GOG can't manage to get any major publishers on-board due to being no-DRM.

GOG Galaxy is good because it's healthy to have some competition that does other things better (Cloud Saves, DRM-free games, Old Games etc.).
Dunno if i like the fact that CD Projekt decided that Galaxy is 100% optional and all games need to be DRM-free. New games won't appear on that platform for this reason (just imagine NieR on GOG kek). It will always be niche.

I use them both but the fact one uses circular icons and Steam uses regular square ones sets off my autism. My poor start menu aesthetics are in shambles

What I dislike most about steam is that I can't play the games that I've fucking bought without launching it.

The best thing about GOG is that it has Connect. So if you connect your Steam Acc with GOG acc you get games you already have for free in their DRM-free version.

Galaxy's problem is that its only available as an Windows EXE, and its a third-party software store front. Both of which are problematic considering Microsoft is phasing out EXE to move to UWP and locking the platform down to only allow software sales from their own store unless you pay an extra fee.

Physical games are plenty for all platforms. They don't suddenly fall out of existence, like digital products, which get removed from Steam and GOG all the time.

Unlike other companies like EA or Ubisoft, GoG is not trying to compete with Steam.
GoG lets you download most of the games, DRM free, without even using the client. The Galaxy client helps download and keep your games updated though.

I like GOG more because it doesn't need the client. Those who are worried about games disappearing from the webstore can just dl the installer and save it on their whatever backup format they use. It's the way things should be, though Steam is a bit faster to use. I haven't tried GOG's client software because I don't need any more of them.

If it was "always online" DRM I could get behind that movement by petitioning an offline mode but besides that DRM is almost always a non-issue.

Steam doesn't force drm. Developers/publishers have the option of allowing their game to run from the .exe alone or not. Some people just dislike steam for being enablers of drm. The list of drm-free games on steam is actually quite long.
