gog of course
it's embarassing it is even supposed to be explained

Steam more or less saved PC, gaming but at the same time ruined it.

GoG is pretty nice, but it has fuck all games which means you still need to use Steam, so I just find myself not using it all that much, I own a few DOS games on it and that's about it.
>>
>>381996841
>Steam more or less saved PC
Steam had nothing to do with it. MS created multiplatform as concept with XBox 360, before that developers were quitting PC en masse because porting from PS2 was hell.
>>
gog is for communist fegits
>>
i use every platform available.
>>
>>381996961
Sure it helped, but with digital distribution it meant you didn't need to waste money on distribution and logistics and the risks of releasing a game on PC got incredibly small, not to mention the easy of use meant pirating wasn't as rampant and people actually bought the games, along with creating the sort of "indie" revolution that brought more and more people into the platform,
>>
>>381997227
There is no difference between wasting money on selling on Gamestop or paying 30% to Valve. PC gaming is incredibly niche and 90% of AAA games sales happen on consoles.
>>
Steam saved PC gaming. Fucking Gamestop was killing all the PC-oriented stores and replacing them with Used Games pawnshops and Gaben had the right solution at the right time and didn't try to be a fat greedy jew about it. Steam would've flopped if all it offered was a one-time download mirror like a few publishers were toying with, but instead it boasted a digital library with unlimited re-downloads of owned games and wasn't publisher-specific.

GOG is good because it's essentially archiving a museum of classic vidya, but GOG can't manage to get any major publishers on-board due to being no-DRM.

Steam because because it has more games and only a small minority of autist /v/ipsters actually care about "DRM" especially the babbies who care about DRM that isn't even intrusive or fucks up modding or anything and actually adds benefits to gaming such as streaming using the overlay, controller support from the overlay, etc.

gog is only good when it has a sale on a game that gives you a steam key LMAO
>>
>>381996638
Steam.
GOG has nothing to sell except for Abandonware from defunct companies.
>>
>>381996638
Its because of steam that we have league and dota 2 and csgo and the micro-transactions fad and fucktons of underage people on the platform

So yeah...Thanks for ruining it
Whoever defends it automatically loses the right to bitch about normalfags and """reddit"""

GoG, definitely.

>Doesn't jew out currencies like the hurr durr "1 Eur = 1 Dollar" on Steam.
>Actually fucking makes sure the game they sell is playable. Steam has a fuckton of old titles you will literally not be able to launch and they consider it perfectly okay.
>At least the most basic of quality control. Steam lets anything and everyone in.
>Doesn't fuck you over without internet connection, doesn't hog reqsources, lets you buy the games instead of Steam-enriched pieces of shit that take a billion years to start because Steam needs to load up, download the latest update, restart, load up again, do another update and then finally ask you if you still want to play the fucking game you clicked on 3 minutes later.

About the only advantages Steam really has is the decent integration with mods and the fact Japanese actually sell their games there.
>>
>>381996638
GOG Galaxy is good because it's healthy to have some competition that does other things better (Cloud Saves, DRM-free games, Old Games etc.).
Dunno if i like the fact that CD Projekt decided that Galaxy is 100% optional and all games need to be DRM-free. New games won't appear on that platform for this reason (just imagine NieR on GOG kek). It will always be niche.
>>
I use them both but the fact one uses circular icons and Steam uses regular square ones sets off my autism. My poor start menu aesthetics are in shambles
>>
>>381999029
this post is pretty well thought
>>
>>381999029
>the fact Japanese actually sell their games there
This. GOG will never have titles like NieR, Bayonetta etc. Not only because they have no DRM policy but also because Japanese never even heard about it.
>>
>>381997698
>didn't try to be a fat greedy jew about it
lmao
>>
Steam
> Cross-platform client
> Way better selection of cross-platform games (will be playable after Windows enables the lock to their Store)
> Sales fund development of better / faster open graphics drivers for AMD hardware (Linux-exclusive)
> Steam games for Linux do not include the most odious DRM (Denuvo, uPlay, etc)

GoG
>Games DRM free
>Best source for use with compatibility layers (DOSbox, Wine, etc)
>>
>>381999029
This.
What I dislike most about steam is that I can't play the games that I've fucking bought without launching it.
>>
The best thing about GOG is that it has Connect. So if you connect your Steam Acc with GOG acc you get games you already have for free in their DRM-free version.
I really fucking hope GOG Galaxy becomes big one day.
>>
>>381996638
i'll just leave this here
>>
>>381999952
Galaxy's problem is that its only available as an Windows EXE, and its a third-party software store front. Both of which are problematic considering Microsoft is phasing out EXE to move to UWP and locking the platform down to only allow software sales from their own store unless you pay an extra fee.
>>
>>381999285

Japan has heard of it. Compile Heart have Neps on GOG, after all. Someone said that it's actually the CDPro management disdain japanese games/hate weeaboos and trying to convince them to sell japanese games is a hard sell.

It used to be. Now you to buy the Deluxe Editin or pre-order yo get some extras on top of the game. Steam also offers this.

>>
>>381999104
Do you want GOG to have drm because big publishers enforce cancer?

There would be literally no reason to use GOG if it had drm.
>>
In a perfect world GOG's concept and Japanese single player games would be a perfect fit.
Steam for AAA multiplayer garbage and asset-flip shovelware
GOG for the real jewels of gaming.
But it seems PSN is playing that role instead.
>>
>Paying 10 dollars for abandonware with DOSbox slapped on it
Some of the prices are ridiculous. Despite being called Good Ol' Games, the newer games they sell have much better value price-wise plus no DRM. It's funny when you think about it.
>>
>>382002796

loool epic roast bro *high fives*
>>
Best thing about GOG is that if there's a patch I don't need to download it to play the game (except if it's a multiplayer one I guess).
>>
>>382001940
what would you release your game on? A platform with singular hardware configuration and 150M audience, directly associated with gaming or a poor mutating child with history of intellectual property infringement problems and audience, divided by rainbow-wide spectrum of different hardware due to CPU and GPU manufacturers releasing new model at least every two months.

Steam, after a janky start, eventually has figured out how to lure in the audience back to PC within less than 2 years with 90% discounts, and the publishers with moderatelly working DRM that's not as rage inducing amongst the crowd as the competition, and a hefty chunk of profit (70% from sale price as compared to 50% max they could hope at retail)

I really hope you were not shitposting and was genuinely unaware of the market situation in mid-2000s
>>
Whoever thinks that Steam "saved" pc gaming is a fucking mongoloid retard. It's not worth it to actually make good games anymore, because nobody will buy them anyway at full price. It's much more profitable to make half-assed shit for half the expense, because it will sell the same amount anyway when steamdrones get their sales seasons
>>
>>382003332
Last time I used one, it took 30 minutes just to get it to open.
>>
>>382003436
>So you either play on console or you're a cuck.
Physical games are plenty for all platforms. They don't suddenly fall out of existence, like digital products, which get removed from Steam and GOG all the time.
>>
Unlike other companies like EA or Ubisoft, GoG is not trying to compete with Steam.
GoG lets you download most of the games, DRM free, without even using the client. The Galaxy client helps download and keep your games updated though.
>>
>>382003679
So Windows Defender took 30 minutes to upload it to Microsoft for scanning it?
>>
>>382003629

the top seller on steam, during a sale, is a game not on sale.
>>
>>382003629
>Whoever thinks that Steam "saved" pc gaming is a fucking mongoloid retard.
It's a Reddit meme posted there by Valve bots.
Reminder that Reddit is a mind control tool seeded for years with fake content from bots, before normalfags picked it up.
>>
>>382003819
I don't know, I'm fairly tech illiterate. I clicked it, nothing happened. Tried again, nothing happened. Restarted, tried again, nothing happened. Open task manager, notice it's running in the background. Decided to just wait it out. 30 minutes later it finally popped open.
>>
>>381997754

>benefits to gaming:
>streaming

not sure if retarded or just baiting

if baiting, then well done anon, well done
>>
I like GOG more because it doesn't need the client. Those who are worried about games disappearing from the webstore can just dl the installer and save it on their whatever backup format they use. It's the way things should be, though Steam is a bit faster to use. I haven't tried GOG's client software because I don't need any more of them.
>>
>>382003880
Valve completely revived PC gaming, but that's not worth sucking its dick for now that GOG exists and is much fairer in terms of DRM and not having early access shovelware.
>>
I want more weeb games to come out on GOG. I can't buy them on steam because it broadcasts me playing them to everyone, which is embarassing.

This. Jesus fucking Christ just admit you pirate games because you don't want to pay for it. I have literally never bought a single song in the last 14 years. It's a way of life. How many fucking PC's do these faggots go through where DRM is a issue?

If it was "always online" DRM I could get behind that movement by petitioning an offline mode but besides that DRM is almost always a non-issue.
