Just like Smash, The VS series has never been a competitive series and until MvC2 it wasn't intented that way, Capcom tried making MvC3 a competitive game and look at how well it did.

Yes, DotA's influence on the industry had spawned countless of horrible games, including League of Legends, the Twilight of Video games, however when seen in a vacuum or when compared to any of the clones, it is a great game that has none of the badpractices that are usually associated with the genre that DotA spawned but does not belong to.
