Met one guy in a pub room in Gen. GS user, real chill. He'd made a dank clownsuit w/ Crit Draw and Focus (I'm actually using the same clownsuit now). Haven't hunted with him since, but it was only fairly recent.

The one that sticks out to me especially so is when me and my brother played 3U together. So he's trying to craft a set of Lagi armor, and all he needs is the plate, right? Shouldn't be too hard, there's two people there after all. Turns out there wouldn't be sunshine and flowers for us, and we spent a week of angry on-and-off lagi fights that only yielded hide, scales, claws, and tails. It was awful.

Aesthetically, hands down Gammoth and Lagombi. Skillwise, I like Seregios. It doesn't matter much to me tho, I eventually end up clownsuiting in the end.

Is SnS even viable in FU? I perform better with LS in that game for some reason. In 4U, SnS works just fine for me, but I suck with it in FU. Why is this?

I like Dual Blades, Light Bowgun and Bow. Swagaxe is also alright but a bit gay in XX.

I'm currently trying out the Lance and I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I don't think I like the way it plays. It's a real one button wonder okay three buttons but you know what I mean, plus the dash into stab that has utterly ludicrous motion value (68 in XX I believe, down from 70 in X, what a whopping nerf) for very little risk or effort. It's an efficient weapon, sure, but it's all about little hops and samey stabs.

So I'm starting MHgen. Really liking the great sword senpaitachi but I'm having major issues. So I'm HR1 and I don't see any hunts for great jaggi to farm Dat sweet armor and upgrade my great bone sword for Dat sexy end game sword. What gear should I look for as a great sword user. What stats matter?

Also, how the fuck do I time when to charge up the GS for the heavy strike 3x because it always seems the monsters do there attacks as soon as I get the 3rd charge and I'll whiff the hit or eat shit.

I mean, I've played worse. and maybe "favorite" is wrong, but I consider it on top for getting me back into MH after a long-year gap from FU. I also enjoyed the styles whilst taking on deviant monster.

There's nothing more satisfying then getting the red aura on a Longsword doing fuckton of hits knowing you are doing damage.

GS is one of those weapons where you have to learn a monster almost completely to be able to hit it with charged attacks constantly. Never go for Lv3 charges if you know the monster will move aside after an attack, it is better to stick to draw attacks or Lv1-2 if you have enough time to attack it before it moves.

Most styles are similar but usually the better ones, in my opinion, are Guild and Aerial, but it is just a matter of experimentation. If you're starting GS, I highly recommend Aerial so you can learn proper attack prediction and positioning.

For skills, Focus is a must, you NEED that lowered charge time. Crit Draw, Sheathing, and Weakness Exploit are good to have too, it all depends on how you want your GS build to be.

Start with a blademaster weapon first so you can save up money. Wait for sales at the shop to buy a ton of ammo. Always pick up the free ammo that is given out in quests, that shit adds up after awhile. If you do go with HBG, pick something that mostly uses Pierce shot. It'll teach you about proper positioning, and you're usually far enough so you don't get too rekt by monsters.

USJ armor sets look really nice. Have a soft spot for Brachydios armor and weapons as well obviously, so disappointed that as Blast weapons they have been overtaken by Hellblade as the superior choice

First of all, as a GS you gotta stay sheathed most of the time, only unsheathe when you're ready for an attack.

Second, level 2 charges are fine, it's better to get the attack that you can, rather than the best attack possible. Even a level 0 charge is good, if the alternative is nothing or worse, getting hit.

Third, the key for level 3 charge attacks is more than being at the right place at the right time, it's about being able to predict the monster's movements to the point where you know where it'll end up once you reach level 3 charge. That kind of skill comes with practice and experience, don't feel bad that you're not getting it consistently early on, especially against annoying, small, mobile mosters like Jaggis or Maccaus.

Hop into the training quests and test all the weapons. GS is a good weapon to use but hard to master, but there is no shame in dropping it for now and try another weapon which you'll feel more comfortable with.

And yes, Guild is classic MonHun gameplay but with the access to two Arts, and no, it is not a meme weapon, it is hard to use but very satisfying when you land a fully charged combo on the monster's head. Just keep practicing, anon.

silencer is only helpful in multiplayer. if you're going solo, power barrel is the way to go.

you probably have a wrong idea of how rapid fire works. each rapid fired bullet delivers less damage than a non-rapid fired bullet. however, if each rapid fired bullet hits the monster, more damage is done than a single non-rapid fired bullet. this comes with a big trade-off as you're locked in place when rapid firing and every shot needs to land.

rapid fire comes in handy the most when you want to use elemental bullet. this is because the number of elem. bullets you can carry is very limited compared to Normal bullets. thus, by making use of rapid fire you're effectively getting more damage out of each elem. bullet, assuming you land all your shots.

a LBG that doesn't rapid fire some elemental ammo usually isn't worth using, there are exceptions. if you're just going to fire Normal or Pierce, you're better off using HBG unless you want that mobility as it does much more damage.

Can't believe I say that about Cenataur now, but looking back, they're both not too hard, fast enough to keep you on your toes and have attacks that are decently dodgeable (not much hitframes in attacks). It's basically a boss rush where positioning and timing are important. A game that demands you know your weapon or else you'll struggle to progress because more often then not once you commit to an attack it's difficult to break out of it and get it out of the way. It's fun.

Souls combat before souls (also there's such thing as different hitzones on monster, they usually take more damage on the head, and to hit head you have to actually direct your strikes to hit it visually), most weapons play quite differently, grind for some people. Maybe others (and other games in series) play differently, but for me there's also preparation for hunt. It's not uncommon to create a weapon or armor set just to fight this one monster. All the better feeling of accomplishment when I kill it.

I wanted to revisit FU, remind me, GS, Hammer, LS and HBG are basically the only weapons in that game, everything else is gimping yourself, right?

Striker is the "classic" GS style, guild is ironically pretty different from the classic draw charge only style of previous games, and focuses more on extremely precise charge combos.

When in doubt, do granny quests.
You may try to branch into Guild Quests, although if I recall right, 1 and 2 star quests are pretty much useless.
Also it's a good idea to check which quests you need to do to unlock next rank, do them first and try to unlock next rank. If you're having problems with something, check if you can upgrade your gear first, suffer through quest to get good second.

Will this game have camera control? The thing I hated the most when playing on PSP.

Okay, well, you just have to kind of jump in and learn how the game actually works yourself. Weapons may seem slow but that's why timing and positioning is important. Try to mess around with a couple different weapons to find one you kind of like the feel of. I recommend great sword, but that's a very tough love approach.

Don't be afraid to sheath your weapon to get closer to a monster or to get the fuck out of the way quicker.

Past that there's not really much anyone can advise you about. You have to know a little more about the game before you can start getting more good advice.

You really should play a more recent title. The original is what kicked it all off but there have been lots of quality of life and weapon tweaks since. The PS2 MonHun can frustrate enough that you may put the franchise down forever even though it could very well be something that you would normally like.

It isn't, you can do the gatling fire with different kinds of ammo, but which ones depends on the gun you're using, and there's a setup time when you enable it.
I like it better that way, ensures that gatling fire will actually see use instead of being restricted to a single ammo type that may never be used at all.

Before Gore had a g-rank event I had to do g-rank GQs to get a mantle. I leveled four different GQs from 86 to 126 and didn't get one until I sent a few to a friend. By the end of it I had somewhere around 130 Gore Magalas hunted.
Kushala X for gunners is my favorite compromise between looks/skills.

The only reason I play Generations is to have fun fighting Silverwind.

i play GS and gigginox is definitely not a hard monster to fight trust me
just wait for an opening and whack the fucker
his attacks are extremely telegraphed and slow as shit, even his double swipe when he's enraged is slow enough where you can roll it easily
learn to distinguish when he's laying an egg and when he's farting, that's probably the first attack you'll get to level 3 him on and if you time it right you'll kill the egg with the same hit too
best advice i can give for GS is to stay calm and don't panic
also if you've not figured this out yet you should not be walking around with the sword out, sheathe it and run around until an opening presents itself

uhhh probably if you get a lot of poison resistance it'll eventually not damage you
but poison is like completely meaningless if you don't get hit by it so there's no reason to deal with that
carry an antidote in case you fuck up and it'll be enough

they're viable enough to use but you're better off just hitting the monster with a normal weapon in most cases
