I don't think so. I think the requirements are slightly more stringent than that.

The risk/reward lose-all-your-currency-upon-death-with-a-chance-to-retrieve factor is pretty huge. As is the 3D. I haven't heard anyone call Shovel Knight a "Souls-Like" even though it fits the bill, and not being 3D is probably a big part of that.

They are designed fundamentally differently than most modern games where you can't really get stuck (corridor shooters like uncharted or games where nothing is required like BOTW)

Quake and Half-Life were Doom Clones.

What makes something a Souls Like:

I'm still enjoying that game because the formula was basically hand-tailored for me. I've nearly maxed my storage space with free death metals, and I love how the hooks that are meant to make whales spend realbux make the game feel really tense at times for someone planning on suffering the consequences instead of buying their way out.

But yes, there are several flaws. Maybe they will be fixed for the second tower/next 40 floors?
