I started playing DaS a few days ago, reached this dude on a SL 50, i think, mostly str build.

enter gate, see shit in my face, roll forward, turn around, swing black knight greatsword, boom dead dogs. run upstairs, plunge attack for over half his hp, finish him in two swings.

i can hardly imagine a build where i'd have a problem here, he's paper thin.

I liked this boss, especially since you can actually nail both arm orbs from the middle if you're good enough. It also saves progress between attempts, which is surprisingly nice for the game to treat you that way. Punishes lockon shitters but doesn't invalidate shield users.

Mage/pyro? no problem, you can dodge ezpz then just spell spam him to death
Ligth dex guy? no problem, dodge everything and whittle him down, he's slow
Heavy weapons? No problem hyperarmor the dogs then smash his face in he's pretty fragile
Heavy armor+shield? No problem you have enough poise and def to block his attacks and trade
