It's good. Very different. Gyro-aiming means people actually hit each other in a console shooter. Low TTK, but also generally very close ranges. Very movement focused with a little bit of stealth. Team-oriented, but it's still possible for one person to basically do it alone.

Everything that isn't the gameplay is bizarre and it lacks many basic QoL features that you'd expect every video game to have. Map selection is completely out of your hands, it's on a global timer for everyone. You can't change weapons without leaving a normal lobby. Weird idiosyncrasies like that. For better or for worse, it's like if people who never played another multiplayer shooter in their lives developed one.

How do I know Splatoon 2 will eventually go to shit? The first game did before they finished most of its Splatfests. So many fun weapons got insanely nerfed while weaker weapons were barely ever buffed. It resulted in the game feeling more and more stale as time went on.

It seems stupid, but with how popular Salmon Run is bound to be in the first weeks, it would basically destroy any online population for Turf Wars. And after its popularity died out, you'd have a hard time finding people to play it with you. Making it an event actually reminds and gives people incentives to actually play it, changing things up and "keeping things fresh."

Same reason why we're still getting map rotations. If people could vote for maps, then there would be practically no variety as people kept choosing the same maps over and over again (like how people keep playing de_dust in CS). Having the maps rotated keeps the online play "fresh."

I don't know. All I know is I've tried a decent amount of matches in ranked and I always end up on the losing side of the equation. Maybe I don't have enough patience or something, I usually just boot the game up to play with my friend and I get sick of ranked after a good 3-4 matches and swap back to public with him.

Read through most of the thread and figured I'd share my experience with Splatoon. I played a ton when it first came out and tried to keep up with the meta. Eventually I got hardstuck B+, A- and dropped the game because I was too frustrated.

Though I still think it was a great game and a lot of fun. Really looking forward to next month.

No, I regret it and got it with the amazon prime discount. It reeks of "we cut content to artificially propagate the community's longevity" and you have to grind if you want all of the arms for every character. To add in salt to the jury, the first "free DLC" character/ARMS/stage are fully playable, functional, and polished but are locked off. Also one of the "vanilla" stages is complete garbage (Snake Park) because it has an extremely annoying gimmick. The producer of ARMS said that they had a set number of "free DLC" characters to release with additional ones pending the game's longevity, but standing here it seems like they're only adding one per month because they've been pretty silent about it otherwise.
