I learn a new weapon each game
Currently got Lance, Gunlance, Hammer and LBG.

Currently my plan is to learn Long Sword in World.

I'm fascinated by you people that picked Greatsword several games ago and have just done that one thing for presumably thousands of hours.

I feel like the only moveset as unchanged as GS is Hammer.

Every time I switch to a new weapon, there's a huge difference in playstyle and I have some very fond memories of making these weapons. Like I remember first time running my Cera Symmetry set. What a time to be alive. I remember making the most amazing mix set with my Nether Sinphony, which took a lot of work because farming Abyssal Lagicarus was hard.

Bowguns look neat this time around though. Might try to mess around as a HBG all the way through instead of just when I feel like fucking around

Was hammer in 3u but became CB after 4u
So satisfying to be right next to a monster, guard pointing there attacks and being able to KO them and sever tails

I will be using many more weapons now that we aren't bound to that ass-retarded control scheme of the DS.
Goddamn any type of ranged weapon like HBG, LBG and bow will be dream to use now because of KB+M support.
Not to mention everything will be much more smooth with the 60fps and more detail due to higher resolution and graphics.

Now that I think about it, I'm positively hyped about MHW.

gonna try out heavy bowgun, i always liked the idea but the 3ds controls never felt right

Charge Blade is my lover. It's so satisfying morphing from sword to ax and back in fluid string of combos. I'm hoping everyday brachydios comes back so I can get my Dios Demolisher.

I will be "that guy" that runs around in a LBG being all supporty and shit and feel like a true heal slut firing Health Shots on people.

It's one of the few weapons in which the basics are simple, charge and hit monster, but doing that perfectly takes time and changes from monster to monster.
After 5000 hours you master the sword and memorise the monster move set going directly for the head with every lvl 3 swing
Or you could go for the legs like a shitter

If the monster is too far away
Charge attack at monster
If the monster is tailswiping all over the place
Hold R and hope the hitbox doesn't fuck you over
If everything else fails just change into a more confortable and agressive weapon

Lance is all about sticking to the monster and poke it to death, optimal dps is achieved by memorizing the monster patterns so you know where to evade and instantly knowing where to poke when the monster is adjusting positiong. Its basically a boring weapon because you have so much you can do with it.

If you're ever getting hit while using a lance you're probably playing 100% wrong.

You should never block an attack unless you fuck up and need to in order to not die.

Try a ranged weapon then realize they fucking suck unless you are on G-rank and make an extremely focused armor skillset to make them comparable to Melee weapons and then realize you also have to make like 20 preparatives.

Then you can also try SwitchAxe and realize its all about Striker mode spamming X with the sword mode and its boring as fuck.

Then you can play Great Sword which is pretty fun and rewarding or Charge Blade which has lots of utility and mechanics.

Why does apparently nobody use the insect glaive? I just started MH4U, my first time playing any Monster Hunter, and I've been liking the insect glaive, but I've only tried a few weapons so far.

Is there a way to know for sure just how much damage I'm doing? Every weapon has multiple different attacks, but the weapon info just has one generic attack power stat, and there's no damage numbers or health bars to go off of.

Since they didn't ruin guns, HBG. So fucking glad that machine gun isn't the regular firing mode.
Also I'm less mad about a lot of the changes after I thought about them, they might not be the absolute best way but a lot of them seem necessary for the open world and monster aggro across zones. Of course the argument could be "the nit shouldn't be open world" and I agree, but I'll give the game it's fair shake. Christ knows I did with Gen.

Practical version: Just keep using it to get a feel for it. Only start worrying about motion values and true damage when you're sure what weapon you want to use. The only ones that do noticeably less damage are the ranged weapons.

Ultimately what wpn i use depends on the design of the current wpn I can make honestly. hammer is forever main though, so will be using that in mhw first, which is better against small shitters anyways.
