Just got morrowind on sale. Never played. What am I in for?

Awful art, awful combat, decent writing, bad sound design, decent sense of freedom.

My impression of morrowind is the same as ocarina, amazing for their time, revolutionary and inspired many future games in the industry...
But that's it, they haven't aged well and the only way people really enjoy them is through rose-tinted glasses. But that's just my opinion.

Get MGE XE and turn on distant land.

Just like Oblivion and Skyrim, you'll need to mod it a lot to enjoy it. It was only good the first few years of release. Times have changed and there are better games.

I don't know, Both Oblivion and Skyrim were lesser games in all things RPG. Sure, you could make the same argument for Morrowind vs Daggerfall, but former made a trade-off with a FAR more detailed province. People tend to forget Bethesda's forums when Morrowind went just as crazy as they did when Oblivion came out.
