Mini dreamcast.
It had some excellent cult hits and emulation for it isnt that great. Having a physical VM again would be better for the minigames. Heck make it so original VMs can still be slotted into the controllers, thatd be rad as fuck for those of us still with them.

to accommodate a normal-size disc drive, it would only need to be slightly bigger. still mini. of course, i have no clue why would want discs at all instead of sd cards. unless you really like load times and whirrrrrr disc noises
>>
>>381921593
This.

They're already re-releasing HD versions of almost all the PS3's major titles for PS4 (thankfully not for full price, though I wouldn't put it past Sony), simply because the PS3 generation ended too abruptly and we STILL don't even have a half-decent library for the PS4.

After the PS4.5 flops (with any luck), they'll immediately release the mini PS4. They've already resorted to re-selling us the last gen's games, they won't hesitate to re-sell us this gen's console several more times.

These reasons and more are why the PS4 will be my last video game console. My next big purchase will be a decent PC. Consoles are losing all the benefits they once had over PC gaming, still denying consumers the features that PCs have had for years, and keep increasing the fees for arbitrarily paid services. If the console video games industry were a tower (rising out of the last video game crash's rubble), it has become so bloated that it would currently be shaped like a lollipop, threatening to come crashing down with the slightest breeze.

Why the fuck would you want a Dreamcast mini when you can buy a real one and burn the games you want to play?
>>
>>381924620
burned discs commonly have shit audio or video because they won't fit on CDs and Dreamcast drives are known to die easily. Alternatives such as SD card mods either have poor compatibility or are expensive.

I don't know about $80, assuming we're talking USD here. That's a bit outrageous. Even the Classic NES wasn't priced that high.

But I would like to see a classic GB model with the games entirely built-in, possibly alongside a cartridge slot so you can play any GB games you happen to own. Basically, reproduce a 1:1 grayscale GB configuration, but add in a read-only storage packed with popular GB titles, and backlights of different color varieties. (e.g. There would be different models with different screen colors, like green, amber and red) Since we're basing this on grayscale GB, it wouldn't be compatible with GBC ROMs or cartridges. I'm going for something with a very retro aesthetic here.

As for managing SRAM, include a traditional backup battery so the user can maintain the devices save functionality. GBA and DS carts use Flash-based memory to retain save data. The problem with that is that Flash chips eventually burn out, much like SD cards and USB drives. I don't like having Flash-based storage in dedicated gaming machines like these.

Novelty christmas gifts for people who only emulate on their computers and might want to play them on their HD TVs. Then there is the nostalgia. The biggest sell is the price. Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone already has a game. But it's easy to tell if someone has hardware or not.
>>
>>381925830
honestly the FF feature is what makes me NOT want to play the Steam versions right now, and I just bought a couple 'cause they were on sale

>>
One that either had expandable memory for more games, or could play the old official games.
>>
Sega Saturn is now my most wanted now that you mention it honestly.

I bought one expecting it to be a Dreamcast situation where I pretty much had a run of the library from piracy. Not the case really. And the games are like a minimum of 100 dollars online and with a lot that aren't available elsewhere.

Plus that means official USB Sega Saturn controllers.

You can almost get any console ever made besides PS2 and game cube from a third party, you can build retropies to emulate them and live out your childhood, you can hook your phone up to a tv and controller and emulate away, it's not worth wasting money unless you're a normie or nostalgia fag.
