Simplicity: I can't take my PC to a friends house to play coop games, but I can take my NES Mini to a friend's house. (Although you can get a RPi3, which I did to play non Nintendo games)

Collectors Value: They are limited and look nice and are already worth more than the original NES.

BTW: I just bought a cheap used Asus VivoPC VC60 to install Linux with RaspberryPi, so I can have perfectly emulated N64 games on a relatively portable machine. I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

Let's enter the mind of a casual consumer, /v/. They want to play old SNES games, so what options do they have?

A) Research emulation, figure out where to download emulators and ROMs for each game they want to play (which isn't hard obviously but anything that requires more than a simple google search can be too much for a lot of people), find a controller that will work with their computer (or, since they probably don't have one or know how to get it working, just use the keyboard), configure the controls, and then play the game in a small window on their relatively small computer monitor. And you better pray they have extra controllers and room to huddle around their monitor if they want to do multiplayer.

B) Pay $80 and have a physical system with very little setup that has all the games pre-loaded on it, comes with its own controllers and no other work required, that they can play comfortably on a couch in front of their huge tv.

They'll pick option B 99% of the time.
