mostly because the worlds are boring "run/drive" to next missionlandmark and shoot some stuff while the planets are basicly just reskins of each other. the game just doesnt work on its "larger scale" which is even more obvious since the loyalty missions that have a much tighter leveldesign are way more fun to play. alot of the dialogue being shit and the story being incredibly unspectacular doesnt help either.

it's really not as bad as most people say it is. there are a couple moments in the game that are legit some of the best of all the mass effect games. the problem is the game is super inconsistent, buggy as fuck (for instance, I encountered a bug that made it so my game froze for ~5 seconds every time I fired a shot while scoped), and for all the great moments there are other moments that legit feel like a mass effect fanfic rather than an official game.

i think the idea and concept behind the game was good, i mostly just wish they remade the game with a better, more competent team. flying around discovering planets was really well done and didn't get old to me. i love space / sci fi shit in general though

Gunplay is kind of eh. The movement is more dynamic and you're not limited by class, but before the patches every enemy was sponge-y as fuck so you'd only ever want to use one of the OP weapons (dhan, sniper, etc). Biotics suck again (nearly ME2 levels of suck).

The mainline quests / companion loyalty quests are pretty decent and exactly what you have come to know from ME2 onward, but there isn't much of it. I think there are only like 7-8 main missions and you can knock them out in 15-20 minutes a piece without rushing things. The open worlds and the quests you find in them are absolute dogshit. Then they fucked up the space exploration by not having a single landing zone anywhere in Heleus. No derelict ships to find/explore on one off missions, no spooky mining colonies that have impaled themselves on spikes, no besieged outpost to bail out. I know people rag on ME1's landing zones, but I really enjoyed all that shit as far as making you feel like Commander Shepard out there patrolling the galaxy.

Story is awful. Ryder dies 3 times because the plot is such shit. The Kett are probably the worst antagonists you've ever seen in scifi.

A guy called the Archon. Only a general sent by a bigger nation to assimilate all usable creatures in the cluster.
Ending:
The Archon has to marvelous idea to get control over the command center of the terraforming network of the cluster (installed by a race we never meet). You follow him. First a space battle where you use the fully automatic ships of those race I mentioned before. Afterwards you go inside the command center (a hollow metal planet) and all your allies help you reach the command center. But you are to late, the Archon gets the control and you have to kill him in a "boss fight" (only waves of enemies, where you have to defend consoles for the to activate). Afterwards he dies, but you don't kill him. Something about an energy overload. Bla bla bla, happy ending. Oh, and the human ark crash landed on/in the planet, because the Archon did the same thing like the reapers in ME3, where he steals a massive space construct off screen and the command center is now the human homeworld.
