Thoughts on the Gears of War series? Do you guys like it?

It's one of the last series that are still just fun. It managed to have a (small) esports scene without it ruining the multiplayer for everyone else.

The only game that gets gunplay right. Every other shooter has guns that sound and feel weak as shit.

GoW 2 - multiplayer was a little worse, campaign was a little better and horde mode was a great addition, thats where I spent most of my time on gow 2
GoW 3 - played through the campaign at a friend's house
GoW 4 - so far from its roots I returned it the day I bought it

I own all of the main entries on Xbox and like it fine but really wouldn't care if the series ended.

I've always been shit at gears since it came out and I went back to 3 to git gud because that's the only one I own at the moment, but I'm getting super mega raped. Yes, runs solid and multiplayer is crossplay now, and I think the last big update added crossplay for ranked mode too. The only issue is downloading it from the Win10 store. Downloads on there tend to restart without saving what was already downloaded, so you could be 99% done and then back to 0%.

Characters and skins locked behind total RNG boxes, old characters included. The skins that were once unlockable through doing something interesting like achievements or reaching a great feat are just there locked behind crates or a tedious scrap grind. Some old characters that they basically ported over from Gears 3 are also locked behind limited time boxes and never seen again too. General RAAM and most Locusts were in limited time boxes and still aren't craftable tot his day, and even when they become craftable they'll cost an absurd amount of Scrap that you'll have to tediously grind credits for. I would much rather have the option to buy them as DLC like Gears 3's weapons skins than gamble and grind for crates at a chance to get the one thing I want with their 5% drop rates. Even if you're the goodest of goy and pay money for the boxes, you still have a VERY high chance of just not getting what you want. Had plenty of friends quit after not getting General RAAM from opening like 30 boxes.

Also do you even have the game? sure they're on rotation but most of the time I'm playing the DLC maps since everyone always votes for them when the match ends, there are a few maps from the base game that I haven't even seen in a while since I always play DLC maps.

Boxes seems like a fair trade off, at least I don't have to pay another 60€ on a season pass, if you really like your skins then spend those 60€ you saved by not buying the maps on loot boxes and get what you want

I only really like the first game. I felt like they wanted it to be something closer to RE4 survival horror which made it more unique. I lost interest once it became like most alien shooters out there.

Just do what i did and focus on single character you want like i did. I got E-day gear in like 2 days and then i was set for months until i finally got my boy Ben Carmine back. I couldn't care less about ranbow skins for weapons.

Loved the 1st and 2nd. Never tried the 3rd and spin off. Also tried 4th (trial 10h). It wasn't bad really. Might buy sometime in future. But 1st act was kinda boring, it got better by the end of 1st act

Bought digital download for this game for about $17 (work gave out free giftcards + sale) and I'm still not sure it was worth it. Not because the game wasn't good (it was great), but because what I had to go through to get in installed.

Long story short, if you shut off Cortana (as in, it's not even running in task background) you can't download stuff from the Microsoft Store. Had to install a second copy of Windows just to play it. No game is worth that amount of hassle.

As for the game itself, I loved old man Marcus and surprise at the end was really interesting. But still did they EVER actually answer what the Locust/Swarm are? It felt they glossed over it a bit with the ending answering who leads them and even that didn't make sense because it looked like it was killing her, not turning her into a queen.

TFW Gears 4 still hasn't been cracked for PC. I guess there is just no demand for it. Crying shame. Given the fact how "old" Gears 4 is now 70 Euros aka 78 USD is a fucking rip off. I have heard it runs like utter shit on PC anyways. Did they ever fix that?

It's a fine series. Great co-op, great visuals. The weapons are good. It's always highly rated. The same people who bash it will praise Vanquish which I also like but is not nearly as polished.
