Say what you will about MvC3, the artstyle they chose to use still looks good and will continue to look good for years to come. If they'd decided to use a more simplified style for MvCi as well they wouldn't be getting as much shit for their awkward looking faces and shitty textures. I can only imagine that they outsourced the game's visual design to some of the same studios that handled SF5, hence the reason why we still have the banana hair for certain characters.

From a gameplay standpoint, the biggest problem I have with the game is that it looks fucking boring. The idea of a 2v2 game with the ability to tag out at any time isn't a new concept and a lot of it feels like a holdover from SFxT. MvC3 at least tried adding new mechanics which weren't seen in previous games (Team Aerial Combos, X-Factor). They weren't necessarily amazing new features but at least they were new.

Regardless, none of this negative feedback from me or you or anyone will matter because Capcom will once again pump money into their own tournaments to drum up hype for what is an otherwise mediocre game. They already did it for SFV, they're pretty good at it by now.

Tourneyfag here. I think the game feels extremely boring and basic, but my opinion is based solely on the story demo they put out. I haven't played whatever build they had at E3/CEO.

Even ignoring the awful visuals, the game feels really stale. The only interesting aspect about it is the infinity gem system, which only really becomes interesting when you're able to use it for the infinity storm. Even with those, the game feels pretty lifeless.

The game gets a lot of flack for their choice in mechanics. X-factor was a pretty blatant braindead comeback tool, something manufactured to give the game lots of moments where players could turn the tables without really having to earn it like they did in previous games. Team aerial combos were pretty much a game of rock/paper/scissors, where the odds were stacked in the attacker's favor. It's the last thing you want to add to a competitive game: a random element that makes a player feel like a match could've gone differently if the coin flip had gone their way.

Aside from things like that, though, I thought the game felt fun and looked beautiful. It was full of small issues like the ones above, but all in all it was a very worth sequel in the MvC franchise

Iron Galaxy could do it, but not with Killer Instinct. KI's combo system and combo breaker meta don't have the "mass appeal" SF or ABC combos have. It either clicks with you or it doesn't.

Cap looks roided out, sure, but he doesn't have any of the anatomy errors that the infamous drawing on the left does, which is what I'm pretty sure made that image so infamous in the first place, not the huge muscles.
