Hey /v/, Im sick of FPS games and I'd like to play a refreshing side scroller.
I played almost all the classic ones such as Castlevania (pic relates), Metroid etc
So what can you recommend? Advantage to post 2005 side scrollers

well, have you tried shovel knight? It's pretty solid.
Cave story of course, Kero Blaster is also fucking great
Have you played Bionic Commando yet?
Castle in the darkness is also a fun little Metroidy thing with a shitload of extra content and hard as nails

>Castle in the darkness
Shit, OP here, thanks anon.
This will have me busy for at least a month.
Also in return I'd like to recommend Volgarr the viking to you. It's hard as hell but it's a really well made game. It's like a mix of Metroid, Castlevania, Zelda II and many other Sega Genesis classics

Already played it, I've spent my fair share of time with platformers. Also if you want to try something in 3D that's really platformy, look for Grapple on steam, I got that as a random gift last year and it sucked me in, it's awesome

How's salt and sanctuary?
Looks cool and kept reading it plays like castlevania met dark souls.

It's pretty great. It rips off dark souls so hard its a wonder they didn't get sued.

Ori and the Blind Forest is an obvious choice if you like metroid style.
Axiom Verge and Shovel Knight are pretty great too. Honestly, though, world is your oyster. Platformers have been going through a huge renaissance lately.

You should play Iji.

Seems sweet, gonna buy it later. God bless the summer sale

Thanks, guys, I like how bigger the list is getting.
I'm also gonna try out Ghost 1.0, supposedly it's pretty good
Environmental Station Alpha is pretty good too for a Metroid inspired game, it's pretty fucking ugly but I really like the gameplay, and the post game content is fucking nuts.
