pokemon was a fun catch game with a light story and a world to explore and play with. It wasn't difficult per se but it wasn't easy either.

Now it has become a "competitive" game and story-focused (with only the black/white series being the only ones with a good story) shitshow. and easy as fuck too.

I gre out of this shit around the time of platinum, that was the first game I didn't even bother to finish. These games need a revamp. They're all basically identical and that tutorial that all of these games force you through is infuriating.

BW was one of the best pokemon games just for this, is the first pokemon game i was actually hyped for.

Its a good time waster and fairly easy to sink a couple hours into without having to be super-focused into it and has some variety with the monsters you capture so it isn't too one note either. After you beat the game you can focus on battling other people or catch'em all, once you're all finished with all that you might've put 200 hours into it at that point.
In my experience Pokemon doesn't really seem to leave a bad experience to the player, its an inoffensive game that kids, teens and adults can get into without issue.

I dunno, I've never really cared about "catching them all", and I play in nuzlocke. Also, they used to add 150 pokemon for every new entry in the series, so things were never stale. Now it's just (bad) nostlagia pandering

I wish they would pull a B/W and have only new pokemon. When I first played it it was like starting pokemon again, and even if it isn't as updated in mechanics imo it's better then both X/Y and S/M in literally every other way.

There's certainly a monster for everyone to like from any walk of life by now, them being inspired by quirks of nature, human culture and industry and world mythology.

You don't even need to be a video game/RPG buff to potentially be interested in playing the games, as many fans are brought in by other aspects of the franchise (a 'media mix', as it were).

Game Freak somehow got the idea that people really want Kanto shit shoved in their faces over and over again as well as "story driven" gameplay and the games themselves suffer tremendously for it. XY was fucking awful, I didn't bother with ORAS, and I'm trying to play through Sun and I can't be fucked to play the shit for more than 20 minutes at a time because I can't take two goddamn steps without being thrown into a cutscene. The PvP went to shit too and I can't even find enjoyment in that anymore. The porn is all I have left when it comes to Pokemon.

The difference is that gen wunners arbitrarily stopped at gen 2 or 3 and like I said, just stuck to it due to the fat. I genuinely enjoyed Pokemon up to 6 and even played through the entirety of XY and kept tabs on the games in hopes of improvement. I'm largely being disappointed because Game Freak is a fucking awful developer. I'm being let down for reasons actually related to the goddamn games. For the record I absolutely loved Gen 5 and for 6 to be such a sharp drop in quality is fucking jarring.
