mount and blade warband is legimately one of the worse games I ever played. bought it this steam sale and pretty much got bored within 2 minutes. At the core of any good video game is good gameplay.
Both Fallout 3 and New Vegas fail fundamentally at this. I'm sure the story and characters of NV are great, but they're totally meaningless when the core gameplay is terrible.

It's incredibly fun but also incredibly flawed. All around a weird one. There is something IMMENSELY satisfying about it's basic loop: at core it's a pretty basic shooter but the scale of it all works extremely well. Plus there is a lot of variety through the various classes. And unlocking new weapons is also satisfying, and the whole thing is so silly it's hard not to find it endearing.

That said, some of the design is just bafflingly awful, and it starts to grind on you. I got a good 25+ hours of amazing fun out of it, but eventually you start reaching a point where a lot of it starts to feel extremely grindy, the clunk starts to show, and most of all, the whole progression and loot systems really make me want to kill some one.
The mission design is also extremely unbalanced: with some absolutely amazing missions, some incredibly short and anti-climactic, and some just horrible, dull, drawn out bullshit like the underground ones, or the ones where you have to pilot that fucking giant mech thing.

A lot of it's content is also pretty much locked behind coop. Which is not to say that the game lacks in content: the is a LOT to do and have fun within the singleplayer: it's a LONG ASS game with hundreds of weapons and options, even on single. But some of the most fun things are locked to coop and that is frustrating to me, as I'm not very coop-oriented.

In short: the sheer scale of it is fantastic. The core mechanics are simplistic, but satisfying enough. It's long and has a lot of shit to do, there is quite a lot of variety to it through gimmicks and options. But it has some glaring flaws that can really start grinding on you, and it's silly at it's very core.

I never regretted buying it in the end. But I also felt like the game could be so much improved by just a handful of basic fixes.
I guess having someone to play coop with adds a whole new dimension to it.
