It isn't a very satisfying video game. Every enemy in the game contains the exact same identical AI, which is just rush you and try to blindly beat you to death with no regard for their own lives. In addition, things like stats and levels mean nothing in the game. Whether you're level 100 fighting a level 2 monster, or level 1 fighting a level 200 monster, every enemy in the game will basically 1 shot you to "death". But to balance this you can pause the game at any time and heal yourself, even from death itself.

That being said, the game looks nice enough (art style is lacking) and sounds nice enough. If you can immerse yourself in the "friends on a trip" aspect, you'll find something to enjoy. It's a half decent friend-simulator. And a pretty decent camping/fishing simulator. Fishing mini game is one of the best out there

You could go into a whole thing about whether or not the story or characters are good, but at the end of the day, it isn't an aspect of the game that was finished

It's extremely mediocre. Combat is braindead, and you have to actively try and be killed, and it's not even flashy enough to make up for the shittiness. Story feels unfinished and cutup, and to even understand the story you have to watch some shitty movie. Music is good. Enviroments are pretty. It's not the worst game ever, but as a final fantasy fan I am very disappointed.

Nier Automata is FFXV, but good. The Engine Sword's description in the game does a better job at telling backstory than XV as a whole does.

Basically lad, its a heavily flawed game but theres still something to be enjoyed in it.

The story is actually fantastic, but half of the shit that should have been there for it to be coherent isn't, and you have to read up about it online to fully appreciate whats going on. The gameplay is average, the car is awful, but the characters are great and so is the story thats barely there. Except for you getting beat to 0 far more often and you doing far less damage. How much damage you do is impacted by level ups, you have entire stat multiplier boosts in the ascension that only work because of your level increases too. And leveling up does increase your stats.

And no, only some enemies have actual 1 hit KO moves that if you are hit you are dead and have to use a phoenix down, stuff like Ravus knocking you down is just because he hits hard, and when I fought him I was around level 60 and he didn't 1 shot me. YOu make use of the ascension grid abilities like impervious for recoveries, airstep/airdance for aerial combat, airslip for aerial dodges, you make use of shields for manual staggers and you make of of other weapons you want to use. Each weapon has their own warpstrike and most have their own discretional too.

There's dlc that explains why characters leave the part, and can open doors with his hand that were never explain in the main story. The next dlc will probably show how one of the characters went blind, another thing left out the story.
