This had potential. If half the areas weren't just rehashes of other areas and it was slightly longer it probably would be the best metroidvania.

Aria has Symphony beat due it's more interesting castle, monster design, bosses, balance, sensible equipment and magic, and is one of the few Metroidvania games with a genuinely interesting narrative.

Symphony is a bit of a mess by comparison.
>>
>>381853770
It's hardly fair to say it but Symphony is so much more pleasant to look at though.
Also, although Aria's magic and soul system is nice I somewhat prefer the increased focus on interesting relics in SotN.
I played SotN after Aria and I can certainly see the appeal.

This is on par with symphony of the night for me. The boss battle against Julius is one of my favorite boss battles in videogames.

>>
>>381854320
It's a shame Julius mode didn't end with you fighting Dracula in that one, only in the sequel.
>>
I actually had no idea there was another, more traditionally linear Castleania game released for the PS1 alongside Symphony of the Night.
It's weird how completely overshadowed it was.

The game's beautiful and all, but the difficulty is a total breeze. Arguably easier than Symphony.

*blocks your path*
I love the hidden docks from PC Engine, It's almost like a meta stage where the developers created really hard encounters and platforming based off previous Castlevanias. and once you master the stage it's still a blast to play through.
>>
>>381853770
I kind of agree. I feel like SotN was excellent considering it was their first attempt at that type of game, but the GBA and NDS titles streamlined a lot of elements, especially map design.

I always thought the inverted castle was kind of lazy. It's also annoying to get around because you're constantly having to use movement upgrades to get around.

Also would have been nice if there had been more warp points.
>>
>>381850195
>Legion
It's Granfaloon, faggot.
>>
>>381856645
Luck code is still easy mode unless you Alucart like a boss.

SOTN is definitely the most memorable

SOTN>Aria>Dawn
As far as classics go, 4>3>1>2

Best Classicvania clone?
>>
I just finished AoS today and with it the GBA ones. I see a pattern here. They are all somehow inferior to SOTN despite it leaving a lot of room for improvement, and to be fair the other games definitely tried but ultimately just couldn't make something as unique and memorable. I doubt the NDS ones would be different in that regard.

I also replayed SOTN recently. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would in a replay and after knowing all its faults and weaknesses. I guess it's just more than the sum of its parts.

Starting to get tired from the other games as well, really derivative of SOTN. At least AoS tried to be refreshing with the story and the soul system but it's still not enough. It's still far too similar to SOTN to make it stand on its own. You still ended up doing the same things in every game and it's annoying. Sort of like the Mega Man series. We are not very far from the word "rehash".

Plus the GBA games have that handheld feel to them. Worse graphics and audio. Smaller, shorter and at times dumped down. In comparison SOTN feels massive and a proper console games experience even with the upside down castle.
>>
>>381853283
Knowing this game's map is supposedly bigger than Aria of Sorrow just doesn't feel right
>>
>>381849252
SotN is grossly overrated and many of the future titles further refined its formula
>>
>>381851673
I was replaying it recently. I love the game to bits but I forgot how retarded the sidequest are
>villager request item
>the only way to get the item is from a chest at the end of a very hard endgame optical course
>the is actually no guarantee the item will spawn from the chest
>if it doesn't spawn you have to re-do the entire course and hope it shows up
between that and waiting for items with a 2% drop ratio I got a little disenchanted
>>
>>381859794
yes it is
>>
My favorite was Demon Castle War, playing as Julius just felt so right and it was awesome how Charlotte was implemented in the story.

RoB has great sprites/animations, but does anybody else think the backgrounds/level designs are incredibly ugly and bland? They look like a NES game. Far worse than SCIV. I guess it was the limitations of the PC engine.

>>
>>381861845
Dawn AND Aria, though I hated the switch to ANIME STYLE portraits.

Also, nice 5.
>>
>>381851694
>More enemies

That would fuck the level design. Making SotN hard without re designing many core aspects of the game would involve giving more hp to enemies, making elemental damage actually do something and giving bosses and enemies some hit invincibility, that would nerf some stupid weapons that just instakill everything.
>>
>>381861671
>modern Konami
At best we'd get a pachinko machine.
>>
So /v/ why haven't you played Lecarde Chronicles 2?
>>
>>381862807
I remain optimistic for some reason despite the situation being bleak. Not only they're not making games now, but it's also hard to see how they'll decide to make 1999 instead of just doing some safer and less challenging.
>>
>>381862807
And then if the machine is successful, everyone who worked on the machine would be blackmailed into staying with Konami forever lest they have their careers ruined, or fired and have their careers ruined if the machine is unsuccessful.

It may not be on ps4, but I have it on my vita.
>>
>>381853770
Honestly, Aria felt to "clean" to me. Symphony was a little broken, sure, but I think those little cracks in the system added so much more mystery and allure to me. The castle in SotN really felt much more isolated to me than the other Castlevania games, especially with the tone of the music and so many different mysterious elements that went unexplained in the game, like the confession booth, or the hanging observatory.

Plus, holy fuck, an entire half of the game was hidden behind such obscure clues and places? AND it was the entire castle upside down? Talk about That Kid levels of secrecy.
>>
>>381854523
This, honestly. In fact, it's mostly her pixels that get me off. Her official art is terrible, but someone on that team drew some sexy as fuck pixel art.

Played a GBA castlevania where you combined 2 different cards to obtain an active power/ability, got really far, I'm pretty sure I beat it but it's been over 10 years since and I don't remember.
Played a few of the ds titles
I feel like I've played a lot but never finished them, will probably make it a point to go back and play them in order eventually.

Not sure when I stopped finishing games, feels bad.

also dropped the PC version of castlevania within the first hour but can you really blame me for that

>>
>>381867705
I don't really have much trouble finishing games unless I suddenly get a truckload dropped onto my plate, so I don't know if I have any advice for you, but bkth of the Sorrow games are fun, and I recommend them. Good luck, anon.
